Ludum Dare 48 - Deep Dive by chimp

[raw]
made by chimp for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

Finally published, with about 1 hour to spare, this is Deep Dive! An ultra casual game where you dive to the bottom of the ocean.

Controls:

Wait for a slider window to appear. Once it does, left click with the mouse the second the circle enters the grey box area to dive

Used one sound effect that I don't own: Bubbles.wav by erkanozan (CC0), https://freesound.org/people/erkanozan/sounds/51745/

This jam has been the hardest one yet. Excluding the theme (and the fact that I lack enough experience to come up with a good game design) and some IRL stuff, I've attempted to make some sprite art and music myself (things that I have zero experience in).

Love the music and the mechanic where you have to time it. Would love to see it longer to see if it gets faster the deeper you go and the more time you lose. overall i like it!

Music is great, but gameplay is kind of repetitive and passive.

I think you forgot to remove the down keybind, I finished the game in 5 seconds without breathing haha
Except that, good idea and great atmosphere!

Really hit the spot with the ultra casual and soothing aspect, the music was great and was a big element in enhancing the game's mood. Would have loved some more assets when going down (maybe fish, corals & seaweed) because the process of going down started to get boring due to the slider event being the same, making the speed of the dot and the location of the sweetpot random would have been more engaging.

Simple and executed well. Nice job for finishing!
The color palette as you dive really works well.

I also think some variation and difficulty balance to the one interaction(dive) would have gone a long way to help keep it engaging.

Nice concept but it could use little more variation. Something like bubbles when diver goes deeper or nice graphic on slider. Overall pretty chill experience. Also it could definetly work woth endless mode. Now it is way too short.

Great concept and interesting visuals. I also felt that underwater vibe you've went after!
As for improvements, I'd make the game a bit more dynamic with less delay time between clicks. And maybe a touch of idle animations here and there.
Other than that - well done!
I'd apreciate if you could also check out our puzzle game "Deep Sweep". Thanks and best of luck! :D

Great atmosphere and really liked the simple animations. This was short but fun!

Only thing that I'd change for this is that it seems counter-intuitive to lose depth when you also lose some of your O2.

I think an interesting thing to spice up the mechanic a bit would be to make you have to press it at a different part of the slider each time. Nice short game.

It feels like I am doing a digital yoga or something Zen, listening to the calm music and see the blue getting darker and darker, this experience is gold, and perfectly fit the theme. The shifting of rhythm adds the variations to this short game. Good job!;)

Nice game but some variation on the Sweetspotposition would be nice :)
