Tales of the Underworld: Rebellion of the Souls by ladybenko

[raw]
made by ladybenko for LD33 (COMPO)
Play as Hades and regain the control of the Underworld! Avoid the ghosts that populate Hell and the dangerous lava. Advance to the next level by eating a Pomegranate of Death.

Controls: ARROW KEYS to move and jump.

Log of the development, in case you're curious http://ludumdare.com/compo/2015/08/24/log-tales-of-the-underworld-rebellion-of-the-souls/

---

Thanks everyone for your kind comments and feedback! Some of you have pointed out a bug in level 3 in which you would get trapped into a section of the level when trying to reach some coins. I'm going to check the rules for the compo and see if I'm allowed do fix that.

Played through all the levels and they all seemed super cool! No problems with controls or anything, and the art style worked very nicely for the game. Good job.

Great ambiance! Music and graphics goes well together.
May lack sone kind of attack or other interaction.

Great little platformer! Pretty easy though, unless the goal is to collect all the coins, in which case I don't know how to get back out of the pit on the second (?) level. Love the music, which works well despite being simple. Also, finally some controls that agree with me :)

A nice, little, short platformer.

The tileset is good and it all fits together to form a great ambiance. Sadly the levels are extremely short and the music starts anew on each stage instead of continuing on, which is pretty awkward.

Overall there isn't much left to do to make this a full game except for expanding on it further. Adding more, longer stages, and perhaps a few more different block and enemy types to match it all together.

Fun platformer with cute characters. I just wish you could do shorter jumps so it didn't feel like you were stuck hanging in the air so much. And is it possible to get those coins on level 3? It's driving me crazy!

yay fellow platformer submission. really good one too, the whole feel is really good, everything fits perfectly.
But very easy, except those pesky level 3 coins that people mentioned, that seem impossible unless there's something hidden. Good job

This was an excellent game! The controls felt very nice, and the art was just gorgeous. Amazing that you made this game in one day!

Aww! It's adorable, short, and pretty awesome. Something I really appreciated in the platform design (that people may not notice) is that they are not set the maximum distance apart for the player to be able to miss them.

My only wish is that there was a way to attack the goomba-ghost-thingies.

Simple concept, well executed. Controls felt responsive, although the jump was a bit floaty (Still, that's always a lot better than having to fight against the controls in addition to the baddies in the game).

I really liked the retro graphics, and the music was a fitting complement. Congrats!!

Great mood!
Even though the mechanics aren't something new or complex, you reminded us all how one should build levels no matter how simple the mecahnics are =]

I liked the game.

I felt like the controls could use some refinement (like allowing me to modulate the size of the jump with longer/shorter keypresses). I also thought that with all the lovely animations on screen, I was surprised when I died or when a level ended and I wasn't really rewarded with some kind of "juice". It just sort of switched modes with no fanfare.

I think a little bit more attention on the primary actions would go a long way towards making this a great little game.

Nice one!
I really love the colours and cute graphics.
The game itself is quite easy, even when collecting all the coins. The timer could be a good incentive to play fast but I find the jumping a bit floaty for a speedrun...
Anyway, it was fun and I liked it, congrats!

Simple but solid platformer. Mayube too simple? I just didn't feel you explored the theme - Hades isn't really a monster, after all

It seems unfinished; there's a setting but no plot, the time & score are not tallied at the end of the game. The foundation is good but it needs more stuff.
Nice color palette though.

Short, sweet and to the point. Yet perfect in every way! Well done, super tight controls on your platformed and well done pixel art.

I liked the level design a lot. The levels feel like a lot of old DOS games like Commander Keen. I felt very nostalgic playing this.
