"Four matryoshkas walk into a television..."

You find yourself in a peculiar place, how will you escape?

Thoughts

Against all odds, here it is, Nestence is finished on time! I mean, as finished as a game without audio can be.

This was a interesting one, I don't normally make games like this, and especially not with 3d. The game ended up being very short, but I guess that's what happens when every new stage needs to be designed from the ground up haha.

If you have played it, here are some more notes:

!> "Deeper and deeper" huh, I liked the theme on this one, it can both indicate mechanics or setting. In Nestence I went with "a game inside a game inside a game...", traveling between games to solve puzzles was the main idea.

Controls:

E - Interact

WASD, Space - Move

Esc - Close game

Post Jam Version Soon(tm)!

May 7, 2021 - Hey! I'm working on the post-jam version of this game right now! Coming with bug fixes, music, sound effects and a little more content. It has been on the works for a few days already, I hope to finish it by the end of the LD rating fase.

May 14, 2021 - Yo! So, I decided to add more content to the game than I initially intended, including a new section that is taking me some time to develop. I don't want to rush anything so the game is getting delayed for at least 2 more weeks, maybe more (Still, don't expect much content, I'm just slow).

May 18, 2021 - Forgot to mention! If you want to see some of the progress for the post-jam version, I'm trying to post updates on my twitter: https://twitter.com/guimm12

Might be my favorite one I've played so far...going into the TV was very cool! And then the file system. Very awesome idea!

Great interpretation of the theme! I liked the art style(s) and enjoyed all of the game "dimensions". I think even just simple sounds would have added a lot?
Btw., the macOS version worked just fine for me. (It would be nicer for non Windows users, if you could upload a zip archive instead of rar)

@william-corrin Thank you!

@kristof Thank you! I do agree, audio would help a lot, I just really didn't have time (or audio skills).
Good to know the macOS version is working, I'm gonna add separate downloads for each version later, thank you for warning me!

Holy this is a really cool game. Mood is on point. The game really creative and trippy. You can clearly take this concept really far which really helps it fit the theme. Only thing missing is sound.

Kudos for providing a GNU/Linux version !

It's working perfectly, and I must say I'm impressed by the smoothness of this game, especially the 3D parts.

The aesthetics of the house are neat, and the nested russian dolls are a nice touch !
Very nice work !

Now, I want to play a lo-fi 3d point-and-click game taking place in a wooden house :D

Audio is definitely lacking, that's too bad ! :-(

Suuuper cool game that mixes dimensions in a very innovative way. First time in the TV I felt a bit stuck until I got what was going on, satisfying! Great interpretation of the theme.

Absolutely ADORE this entry, what a perfect take on the theme! Each area was unique and well made with aesthetics for everyone to enjoy, and it doesn't take too long to complete. This one should be up at the top of the list!

@ennacirruh @shem Thank you! I'm glad the mood came across well.

@ace17 Thank you! Good to know the Linux version is working! And yeah, sound is definitely lacking.

@tatu-heinamaki @brian-mayberry Thank you!

The game feels very polished and you nailed both the idea and execution! The game was short but it still felt like a complete experience and didn't bother me in the slightest, I just wish there were sounds. The visuals were great too, I'm impressed you managed to create something so good, especially for a compo entry! Great work!

I love the different scenery & artstyles. Fun and unique mechanic jumping in/out of the tv with keys. Smooth platforming with the movement. Great job!

This is so cool. It's like a mini-metroidvania.
And the different game-styles with differen artstyles were really surprising.

The only thing missing is sound, but I still had fun.

Good job all around.

Oh WOW! Absolutely my favourite game of all compo entries I've played so far. The aesthetics are exactly my jam, the controls are simple and intuitive. If you expand this and add some nice music/ambiance I am 100% buying it! Such an amazing game and idea!

This is really great for a compo entry, I imagine the lack of sound allowed the rest of the game to be such a unique experience. I would never dare to try something like this in 48hrs lol, nice work.

That was really nice! I love all of the different art styles you've incorporated in your game, and your theme interpretation is one of the most original I've seen so far! The visuals are so good and diverse in every subgame, that you get sucked into the game world even without any sound effects or BGM. Great job!

I really appreciated that each section no matter how short had a lot of attention to detail and care in it! There is a way to softlock the car level by driving back out to the left and down and then back to the right. It puts you outside the track and you can miss hitting the TV chip(?). Honestly I was just tinkering around to see what makes it tick, it was still a really fun ride through and through!

Currently one of my favourite game of the LD48 so far.
This is a brilliant idea/concept, perfectly executed. Amazed by of polished the game is, smooth and simple 3D, 3 mini games insides one another... simply stunning, the kind of gem I like to find in Ludum Dare, plus in COMPO mode. My feeling through the game was : "Oh... WHOW. Oh no, really ? OHHHH !!"

- With sounds, the experience could have been more immersive, but 48h is really short and the amount of work done is already stunning
- I don't have any other comment, simply that I wish this game would be longer :)

Congrats again, I really liked it.

Wow, you did this solo in 48 hours, amazing! Great job on the visual design, the art was simple but clear and conveyed exactly what it needed to. Sound effects would have been a nice cherry on top, but really great even without. I really have no criticism except I wanted there to be more :)

This game is very impressive, the pixel art is really good and shows you explicitely that you're deeper and deeper. But wow the really impressive part is the gameplay idea, it is so clever and it also fits the theme of the jam so well, great job on that. The only problem i have with the game is the total lack of audio, and it would have added so much, you could have highlited the different atmospheres inside each device. But overall, a impressive entry in only 48 hours

Really liked this one - the style changing was cool, and I loved the art!

Shame about no audio though - even some simple BFXR bloops and ambient white noise would've helped made the mood really shine I feel, but can't complain with the amount of different art assets on display

Short but fun! Nice usage of the theme. Sounds are really missing here :( and wouldn't mind longer levels in platforming sections each time you enter TV and going deeper into the games :)

Great take on the theme. What I liked the most is how intuitive everything was. I knew I had to go back with the key without messing around with anything else. I loved the simplicity of it all and the mood was pretty well set even without audio.

Thank you for all of the feedback and kind words!

I wished I had the time/confidence to add sounds at the time, but I'm glad some of the experience came across even without them! I actually got a headache the day after because of how little I slept during the jam haha.

@sdata Oh, you are right, I forgot to make a killzone on that area. Thank you for testing stuff!

There was something really special in the game mood, I totally enjoyed it. I liked the lack of explanation and tutorial, as everything was quite intuitive and provided their "ah AH!" moment :) Good job

Really creative take on the theme and escape the room! The style is well executed in all dimensions. I liked the concept of bringing puzzle pieces through the dimensions and mixing the gameplay between them. It must have been a challenge to do them all. Great job making a game in a weekend!

Very good idea! It reminded me of the movie "Inception". I got my mouth water for a bigger game. I love "escapes games" and this dynamic of changing game genres was the icing on the cake.

Congratulations on being able to make such a solid game in 48 hours and alone.

Really nice ! I like this take on the theme, graphics are neat and works well together. Platformer feels very good too. It's just a little bit short, idealy one more trip would have been great, but that's already quite a lot of stuff made for a compo game.
