Nav's Endless Nightmare by Zizhen96

[raw]
made by Zizhen96 for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

itchioBanner.png You play as Nev, a space bunny who doesn't know why is in a distorted and nightmarish dimension full of one-eyed creatures. Try to go through deeper and deeper within the time limit you have! Nav's health bar is constantly decreasing but you can replenish it a little bit whenever you enter the mouth of the big monster, which opens only when you've cleared all the enemies of the area.

Wow! I am super impressed by this one. It feels very polished, movement is great, and it seems like one of those "easy to learn hard to master" type games, and I like that a lot. Mood is on point (I LOVE the big monster guy), and this all around feels great to play. Seems like you guys definitely know what you're doing!

Woah, incredible work on the graphics! From the teeth in the background at the start of the level, to just how adorable the main character is, the artwork is just phenomenal!

Gorgeous artstyle and catchy tunes. Gameplay-wise, it is a bit dry but it gets the job done. I really like the idea of descending by going into a beast multiple times.
Quick suggestion: maybe try to give some oomph to hitting enemies, as of now its the same as hitting a wall, something as simple as a red texture for the explosion instead of the regular blue one would be enough.

Awesome, I had a lot fun! The character controls were rly good, specially for a jam game. The idea with the monster was wonderful and the graphics and looks pleasing for the eye.

Some jumps were kinda not doable, dunno if I have missed something but that kinda riped me :D

But either way, good job on that one!

Some really beautiful pixel graphics here.

I didn't understand why my health kept going down even though I wasn't getting hit. If this was supposed to be a time mechanic, I didn't like it.

beautiful graphics and great audio.

Some of the spikes are really to cross with the slippery control. Having a time mechanic without a way to recover puts a limit on how far we can go. If there is a way to regain health, or remove the time mechanic it would be better.

Nice game, the cool art and the music give it a really good mood. The game could maybe use some more anticipation though for exemple I saw nothing to indicate which spikes were going to fall and which would stay on the ceiling.

one of the best art
love the audio as well

for the level design part can be done better
in terms of where the monsters will be

the movement I think is not suitable for this game
difficult to perform accurate movement

You nailed the character movement, and the music is great! Farthest I got was room 5. I think this would have been improved by more enemy variety, but it's pretty good.

Nice animations, well communicated tutorial, solid music. The gameplay felt a little rubbery though, and sometimes spikes were placed just before a monster so it was impossible to get over the spike without hitting the monster and taking damage. I didn't initially understand that you lose health over time, but it was understood by the end of the first playthrough. Thanks for sharing!

The main character is so cute! in fact all of the art straddles the cute/creepy line in a really appealing way. The music adds a lot to it too! The only critique I have is the controls feel a little loose. I'd prefer if the challenge came from the level design as opposed to adjusting to the character mechanics. Great overall jam game though! Super well put together!

Wow! Great game guys! The overall vibe of the game was very good, the music and the art fitting together perfectly. Also I like the take on the theme, and the atmosphere of the game! Only "critique" I can give is that, fighting the enemies was sometimes awkward, but that's a small detail. Great job!

Really nice, the art style on the game was perfect and felt very nostalgic! :D -My only query was that maybe more health could've been given when you get to next level!

Bonus points for putting the control directions in-game, that's a great idea for a jam game. I liked entering the next level through the monster's mouth, very creative!

The controls felt very smooth, and the bunny is really epic with his suit.

I bet you get nightmares from that monster at the end of the level. It’s a bit crazy to jump into his mouth. .

The graphics and music are super nice. The controls are a bit awkward. And the main issue I had was that you can't jump on enemies. Overall a pretty solid submission.

Nice aesthetic! The shooting sound could use some variation, since it pretty much take over all the sounds, and perhaps a little lower so we could hear more of the music. Also, seems a little too punitive, but that's one me playing badly perhaps xD Nice job anyway!

Gorgeous pixel art, tight controls, and great sound, a very well rounded little game. My only wish is that there was more going on with the gameplay. However, what's here has been polished to a mirror sheen. Well done!

It's neat - the randomly generated levels work well but they get a bit samey
The sound design is spot-on tho - really shines through
Good one - well done

Art looks great, sound is good too!

It felt like one more trick to the main character's arsenal would have added a lot more depth. A more controllable jump, air dash or double jump maybe? Some generated were levels were impossible for me because of stalagmites in a row (can't jump over)

Pretty polished art and gameplay. It has a really good quality to it, didn't meet any bug wich is really impressive. Music was nice too! My only issue with the game is that it felt a bit repetitive. I think it lacks something such as upgrade or anything that could provide a sens of progression. I Reached room number 8 maybe it's after that? It took me a while to realize life was decreasing over time, it could have been a bit more obvious. Pretty nice entry!

So this was a nice entry :). Loved the colour pallete you chose for this game. The animations and sprites were cool as well. It was a fun shooter and I liked that there was a counter to let me know when I could rush to the monster at the exit. Enemy variety was great as well and kept the combat interesting. I felt the deaths were a little cheap in some places though, the hitboxes for the stalactites (teeth ? lol) at the top could have been a little more forgiving. Same for the ones on the bottom. Some sort of indicator to know that they were about to fall would have been great. Still though, the game is really cool overall. Great job on this :)

Loved the graphics, the bunny in particular was adorable in the midst of the creepier creatures and environments. Nice colour palette as well! <3

Controls felt smooth, and gameplay in general was solid, even if enemies at some points felt too static. Keeping track of time/your health bar also added some welcome challenge.

Nice job!

How cute! It was very good! The color palette is very well chosen. Sometimes the shot ends. This is normal?
It doesn't make much sense for one monster to have eaten the other, but game is game.
Is this game endless? Do you have a score?

Congratulations!

P.S. Is this monster you get in your mouth is a son of Crocomire from Super Metroid?

I like the graphics and sound design very much, but the gameplay could definitely be improved. I think this could be better with just shooting using the same controller as movement. Besides, I always die on the third level because of some invisible collider - maybe a piece of tooth?
EDIT: Ok - now I've just read there's a time limit :)

sure it is endless
the game is good but not perfect ;
here are some tips : shooting animation should be better ; levels should make a difference
any way ,nice job

Great game! The graphics, music, and gameplay are all really good. Pretty much everything just feels extremely polished, and I like how you introduce the messages at the beginning of the game - it was a really neat way to show what the character is saying/thinking and you faded the messages into the scene nicely. Unfortunately the farthest I've gotten is level 4, but maybe I can play again some time and get further :)

Everything looks and feels great (mostly).

I experienced a bit of input lag, but maybe that was a WebGL issue.

Gameplay-wise, I kept wanting to shoot teeth to land on enemies. That might add a bit more depth to the combat. Also maybe an actual aiming reticle instead of just the mouse cursor?

Other than that, excellent game!

Amazing art! I think the setback after being hit by an enemy is too long, it kind of breaks the flow in my opinion.
