Depths of Corruption by Austin

[raw]
made by Austin for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

Primer

That dark mountain has cast a shadow of your lieges lands ever since you settled here. It's corruption spews from it like a dragons breath. Anyone who dwells too close too it usually dies a horrible death, or is the cause of one.

Yet the shadow it emits has caused things not to just be lost to it, but emerge from it's depths. The closest settlements have reported sights of dark creatures lurking the edge of their villages. Not only that, the residents there have been turning to dark things. Black magic, slavery, murder. What once used to be blossoming villages have turned to wastelands of crime.

Your liege has tasked you with putting down this, this, thing. What ever it may be. If it goes deep into the mountain you must not stop until it is kill or caught. Do not fail us knights.

Gameplay Goals:

Take on a fellowship of knights, to cure the lands of corruption. You will have three knights as you delve deep into the mountain to find the source of this madness.

Morals and Morale:

As the corruption eats at your knights souls, they will be tested. Not only in combat, but the ways of mind, body, and flesh. Hold your knights together, with stories and their faith of choice. Choose your tenets wisely.

Fail and well. It won't be pretty.

Combat:

Your mettle will be tested with a wide variety of enemies, of corrupted nature. The wildlife and humans that the corruption has chained in the mountain will test your combat ability. The combat will be intense with real-time action with pause (to catch your breath when the going gets rough). Position your knights on the battlefield engaging enemies and defending your fellows. Unleash spells, spears, and other weapons at your enemies.

Kit

Your knights will come ready for combat, but the corrupted depths have some surprisingly good loot. Be careful though, Not all are what they seem.

at least in the first few levels, there seemed to be very little strategy, and you just send all your units to each enemy one by one and they die. the game mentioned spells and abilities and things, do you just need to wait around until the later levels to see those?

I was unable to get to items, different combat types, etc, as described. That is where I would like to take the game though. The overview is what I want to make, the actual submission is what I made for the jam :). Thanks for playing!

Didn't know which units were mine at first. Its hard to select units as they are moving as well. I kept accidentally moving my selected unit when I was trying to select another one.

My plan was to have a pause so you didn't have that issue, but as time got down to the wire I forgot to put it in. I understand on the unit confusion. Would like to polish and implement more UI. Thanks you for the feed back.

A technically impressive game that would probably feel a lot more fun if it was faster.
I got to level 8 and just ran my lads into the mobs and the screen went black? this might have been death or the game just completely crashed, I was running in the browser

Oh this is very good to know haha. I most definitely didn't have time to play test that far, do good! I agree with the speed 100%. I wanted the movements to be smoothed by lerping the characters to the next tile, but time just blew away ha. Thanks for playing!
