Sblaaf!! by Thob

[raw]
made by Thob for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

Play as Brook, a fierce dwarf miner. Punch your way through the tunnel (an old-fashioned method) to reach valuable ore !

⭐️ It is recommended to play the .exe version, as the web version may have some lags.⭐️

HOW TO PLAY ? - Move with the Left & Right arrow keys - Punch with Space!

This prototype is our entry for the ludum dare 48, in Jam category ! Made by Lauréline Chambon (environment), Yanis Lhôte (character, VFX & UI), Théo Besson (dev, level design).

We hope you'll like it !

The art is amazing! I had fun didn't get very far though.
I've put a low score in Audio, because neither the original author of the song (The Yogscast), nor the author of the cover (Wind Rose) were credited.

I thought this game was great and i could keep playing for ages. Simple to understand, quick to pick up and great execution. Awesome.

..can't get the music out of my head now though :P

@blmbop Thank you ! The game can be quite hard but it is also quite short! The end is reachable!
Thanks for pointing out the problem with the credits, I fixed it ! I also added credits for the sounds used :)

I love it!!!! Would easily play it for hours on mobile!! The art is amazing! the animations are very smooth and the song is very very catchy hahaha !! nice job!!

The levels repeat though. it's hard to notice but they do ahaha. with some procedural level generation, randomization and different game modes like "infinite" or "finite" or "get more gems time trial or die trying" would make the game shine!!

Truly an amazing work. congratulations to the team!

Also, consider uploading your game to itch instead of google drive. Some people have to create the drive account to download, and it's a little harder than downloading it for itch. You can also link your itch with the lurum 48 tag so people looking for lurum dare games would find it more easily!

@pixelipy Thank you Pixelipy for the feedbacks !
There is one level for now. We made this choice to be able to fully polish it ! So it is also hand designed to have maximum control over the experience. If we were to work on it again we would do a procedural generation system, and infinite/finite levels as you suggest I think !
I started to make the itch.io page but I didn't have the time to finish it yet nor to make and test the webGL build but it's in progress anyway (I didn't know I had to create a drive account to be able to use it, sorry about that).
Thank again !

Cool game, looks good, plays well, the music and sounds fit pretty well. What else do you need?

I found a bug tho, after some runs I died but the menu didn't appear, so I had to force quit the game. Not sure how to replicate it, sorry.

Great job!

THe visuals look super polished. The gameplay is not very innovative but it is still really fun and addictive. Maybe the falling should be a little slower/steering faster because it is hard to dodge some obstacles (but i recommend rather making falling slower as the game is a bit blinking). Great entry!

this is an awesome game if a little motion sickness inducing. I didn't rate sound either as if I understand the rules correctly you can only be rated on a category where you only used your own assets made during the jam

(although if i could rate sound it'd get top marks as it totally fits the game!)

Visually super polished! Control of the character is nice, I laughed at the mini dance of the dwarf at the beginning :D

I had few bugs (game wasn't restarting properly and once dead, the body kept falling without losing, quite funny though!)

Imho the biggest challenge is to "guess" the good timing to punch. It's very punishing if we punch several milliseconds too soon or too late, as we crash on the rock. Maybe it misses a small visual feedback that we are too soon or I don't know.

Anyway, nice entry, I really tried hard to beat my highscore! :p

First of all graphics are AWESOME! Game mechanic is maybe not the most innovative but you know what i dont care because playing it is just so addictive. Polishing is also very good. Overall really nice game. Thank u and Good job!

I found the window for the punch to be a bit short and some of the horizontal momentum was tough to control but the look is good and there is certainly a lot of polish

Great stuff! Did you make any audio? Cause if you did not, you should not be rated in that category. It adds to mood though. Great work overall!

SO fun, loved it!

The game looks visually super good. It seemed like there was only one stage. It would've been cool if the stage generated randomly. I read your comment about your decision concerning this and I perfectly understand it. I also encountered a bug where when I restarted the game, it would tell me that I was already dead but I could still move the character, etc. Don't really know how I managed to get that bug.

Cool and fun game, great work!

LOL!!! Diggy Diggy Hole. I love that song hahahaha. I loved to hear that song. It matches perfect with the game. Listening that while using a dwarf on a hole. Great! hahahahaha

Nice audio and visuals! Apart from a few bugs here and there such as respawning and immediately losing while being able to move or dying and havin the lose screen not pop up it is a pretty solid game! Here is a photo of the second bug, happened on the WebGL version:

I completed the game and got this score,

I think i could improve it if I can land the double rock punch-through at the end. Cheers and keep it up!

Very cool and polished-looking! Gameplay was satisfying, but the timing of the punch felt a little unfair -- it already increases in challenge over time, so a tiny bit more 'coyote time' would have felt more natural to me without making things too easy. Loved the way the visuals, sound, and character art worked together to create a cohesive whole, and absolutely loved Brook's personality as well. Great job!

Thank a lot everyone for the nice comments !! We're so glad you like the game so much !
- Following the few __feedbacks about the audio (sounds and music)__ used I asked Mike Kasprzak if he could opt out us from the Audio voting category (you can't change it by yourself after submitting the game)! Indeed, even if there was research, integration, retouching and mixing work on the sounds and music, we didn't do it ourselves and it would be unfair to be graded on that compared to other teams who would have done it themselves in the jam ! And it's done , __the Audio voting category has been removed from our rating !__
- We take note of your different feedbacks on the punch that doesn't always seem right! However, we wont directly make the modifications because we don't want to change the game during the voting period.
- We also noted the few bugs that you shared, thank you !

Fun game! I'm not so good, my highest score was 32. it's not easy to dodge platforms without learning the pattern a bit. it fits the theme perfectly. Well done guys!
