made by toilari for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

Your friend Frank has managed get you in real pickle this time. At the start of the game, you find yourself wandering deeper and deeper into the depths of hell.

Dive into the depths of Hell and slay the devil himself on the tenth circle! Can YOU save Frank from eternal damnation?

We didn't have time to make a tutorial for the game, but luckily the controls are quite straightforward: - Use Left Arrow and Right Arrow keys to move - Press Space to jump - Z is your basic attack. Fires a three round burst. - Press X to dash (needs to be unlocked at the shop first). Player dashes forward and briefly becomes immune to all damage.

Slay enemies to collect souls, use souls to buy upgrades at the start of each circle (starting from 2nd) and proceed deeper and deeper into the depths of hell. If you can make it to the tenth circle, there even is a (~~anticlimatic~~) boss fight!

love the art, powerups and the humor at the start, was pretty hard to understand when i hit enemies and when i dont, but overall its a great jam game. the enemies and the place itself is coded really well as a bonus, so they feel good to fight against. great job!

Well. I reach the 5th circle of hell and i have to say that i really like this game. There is a true vibe in there, graphics, musics work very well for the atmosphere. The game is a bit hard but he is deep. Make the good choice at shop, improve your skill to success. Really loved it!

The opening cutscene was realy fun and the graphics are great.
Would have been nice if there were some other platforms as well....the level design became boring realy fast.
Good game :D I managed to get to the 4th circle :D

This is it my LibGDX fellows! The simplest graphics I've seen in this jam, but still with the sound effects it hits reaaaaaly hard and makes it to my fav so far! I thought I have sense to create horror mood, but you guys have higher skill than I thought I have. A very, very good job. I defeated one boss and lived till the 5th circle. How many circles are left?

And btw, I read in the comments, you can have powerups? I mean how and where?

Hey @syvyys, great atmosphere, well-fitting music and art. really had trouble getting it going since my Z is Y :D ...
first "boss" on 3rd is cool, intro was really nice. not my type of artstyle usually, but in itself really consistent, and brilliantly animated.
congrats!

- Theme: 2.0
- Graphics: 4.0
- Audio: 4.0
- Humor: 1.0
- Mood: 3.0

(Don't take this as harsh criticism because obviously it's a gamejam game, I'm only explaining my rating here)
To me the graphics and audio were pretty cool and the main draw of the game. The gameplay itself felt decent and fun for what it is and combined with the graphics reminded be a bit of, for example, the old original Duke Nukem games. I wouldn't say there is any innovation, it's just another scrolling shooter in that regard. Theme-wise it's.. using the theme, but that's about it, not much creative use of the theme. There was some attempt at humor at the intro, but other than that not really. The mood was pretty cool, it did feel dark and a bit uncomfortable. I was in the fifth circle and appeared to be stuck on a couple of big guys I couldn't kill.. was that intentional and the end of the game?

Congratulations on finishing your gamejam game though! I hope you had a good time and maybe you can develop this into something more!

The best part of this game for me was the atmosphere and the general feeling of the environment, I also really liked the enemy designs and how they behaved, really cool! The first qritique that I can think of is that the movement felt kind of slow and made the pace of the game slower than what I would have preffered. But overall I think its a really cool game! Good job!! :D

It may not be the most innovative entry, but it's really fun. I like a challenge and this close to perfect in terms of difficulty - my only gripe was with guessing when those skull dogs would drop on you, some sort of visual cue to know when to dodge would've been good but otherwise great difficulty. Your graphics are impressive in their simplicity and added to the mood was fantastic, along with really creepy atmosphere from the audio. Solid shooter scroller.

You have done a great job of building the atmosphere. The sound work is just superb! And I really loved the graphics too: despite the minimalist pixel art, you can read every detail of this world.

And the starting cutscene with your friend riping himself apart is truly terrifying. Have not expected that from the description of the game

The gameplay is simple and fun but gets a little bit repetitive after you've reached the 5th circle and basically have seen everything and understand the flow of the game.

Nonetheless, you've done a great job! Had lots of fun playing your game.

A simple but nice roguelike with cool particle effects. Some of the enemy attacks were hard to decipher at first and the pacing was a bit slow for me but overall the game has a great atmosphere. Good job!
