5/1 Update: There was a bug in the initial release where squid weren't tagged as squid. You should now be able to properly collect all the creatures!

The depths call to you! Can you collect a 10/10 photo of each type of creature?

In a Barrel is a relaxing photography game about taking pictures of cool sea dwellers.

How to play

Your goal is to get a 10/10 photo of each of the 6 types of creatures. You can find each pair in a different layer of the ocean. Photos are scored based on framing and creature presence.

Use your mouse to look around and W/S to move forward/back.

  • Press Q to toggle your Camera!
  • Once your camera is open, click to take a photo.
  • Press E to toggle your Creature Collection
  • Press left/right or a/d or click the arrows to scroll through your Collection.

Tools:

  • Unity 2020
  • Krita
  • FL Studio
  • Blender 2.8
  • Shapes
  • DOTween
  • OdinInspector

Wow, beautiful and relaxing game! I especially like the animation of the different animals and the way they swim.

PS: don't forget a way to exit the game in stead of using [alt+F4]

Fun calming experience, I found the controls to be slightly janky and the animal detection didn't always work but there aren't many games like this.

Controls were a bit off but I found the mood to be quite chill and enjoyable.

Love the atmosphere and music, it's a very relaxing experience. Toggling of camera mode with Q I find cumbersome, what value does it give to the player? I would just put it on LMB. Great Job guys! :)

Nice game, moving inside the sea taking photos of different fishes. Graphics and animation is very nice. Controls need improvement.

Very relaxing game ! Good work, especially with the animals animations and the music.
Guess I'm a terrible animal photographer by the way :)

It's a great interactive experience, very calming and thoughtfull. The concept is interesting, it pushes you to explore the ocean. Maybe the controls need some polishing and the LODs are a bit aggressive, but overall I liked the game and enjoyed playing it. Nicely done!

Nice and relaxing :) Reminded me of Pokemon Snap back in the day. This was very enjoyable - the music was particularly chill and added to the atmosphere of casually taking pictures. Well done!

The atmosphere is great, the music sets a casual mood! The fish are very interesting, I really like to explore in it, good job! A small point of view - for me there is a little bit of deep sea fear, I was afraid that a big mouth will suddenly appear LOL!

Nice graphics. The game did crash for me when I took a picture. It might be my computer though.

Lovely experience! Nice and relaxing :) Filled out my photobook :fish: Although i would suggest making it more clear what gives you a better score!

For example heres to pics of a squid! I prefer the bigger one where he is completely in shot, however it got 5 points compared to one where he is far away? Anyway. Still a great game, good job :blowfish: :tropical_fish: :camera:

I really like this one! I even found a shark chilling in a conch :D

The movement is a bit clunky. Strafing would have been nice, but more importantly I expected ascend/descend buttons in addition to forward and back. As is, backing away just a little bit to take a centered photo of something on the ground was probably more annoying than it should have been.

That said, the atmosphere is great! The ambience really adds to the experience, and the models are well done (as are the animations). I even tried to go out of bounds, but was stopped, so good job on taking that into account.

I would really like to see this as a full game with modern graphics and perhaps a story. It definitely needs to be longer, as I "finished" the game rather quickly. All in all, you did a great job and I'm very impressed :)

Very chill game! The music is perfect for the mood. I think I got too close to the surface and got stuck on a collider or something though - I ended up able to move horizontally but not back down vertically.

Feedback: having the camera be always on, and not impede movement would be better, letting you just quickly snap a photo with left click. And, of course, a proper quit button rather than needing alt-f4!

Great entry overall!

Great and relaxing game. I like the mood (the music and graphics) It also kept me on the edge at the beginning since I'm afraid of water or ocean to be exact  So, thank you for the experience.
One problem I came across was when I went too close to the surface, it froze and wouldn't swim back down.

I had a barrel of fun! Really nice atmosphere and I loved the way the big shark loomed out of the water at you.

cool and well executed idea. I feel like it's a good idea to restrict movement when you use the camera. Only at some points more or less animals were found in the picture - but then again, you just have to move and find a better position/angle.
Nice!

I liked your game. The graphics are beautiful, especially the 3D model of each fish. The music is relaxing, and the gameplay of taking pictures of the animals (and with notes) is quite interesting. I managed to make a 10/10 almost all fish except the Eel, which manages 9/10. I tried in many ways I couldn't get a 10/10 picture of the eel. Anyway, I believe I was able to enjoy the experience of your game. I witnessed some bugs in the movement of the camera, and also to take pictures, but nothing that got in the way. Congratulations.

Really enjoyed playing through this. I agree with the comments about the movement, strafing would have made it much smoother. Thanks for making this!
