Drowning in debts by Drunk Wizard

[raw]
made by Drunk Wizard for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

Dive into the depths of the ocean

As you plunge deeper into debt, you need to dive deeper into the ocean!

Diving can be a very expensive but also very profitable. Every second spent underwater costs you money, but there is hidden treasure in the ocean, worth the trouble. Catch fish, save up for upgrades and dive deeper. Goal is to get out of debt!

P.S. I would recommend downloading, the web version has unresponsive fish sometimes

Very well, working and looking cool, interesting underwater fauna being revealed the *deeper and deeper* you get. Dash is an essential primary purchase, fish are pretty skilful in not being caught.

I've played on keyboard and missed the directional freedom of analog stick when hunting, I'd definitely recommend to try that way first.

Really cool game. Visuals are very well done, and sound was good too. Thematically, I would have liked to see time pause when you are on land rather than saying the loan just stopped going down. This could add to the frantic feeling of this guy constantly going up and down rather than chilling on the surface. well done.

Marked as Windows build but it's a html5 browser game; might want to fix that. Really fun premise and take on the theme. The difficulty of the catching the high value fish makes them really satisfying when you get them, and the way health was done gave every mistake a good weight that kept me hooked.

Great work! Really enjoyed this one.

awesome! i like the little diver man, and he feels great to control. also the concept of time as a currency is very cool. the visuals and audio design are very well done as well. honestly, if your progress saved i could see myself coming back to this sometimes and helping the diver pay off his diving suit.

cool stuff!

I really like this game. The gameplay is solid and I like the fish AI, and how you are incentived to be more efficient.

In my mind, this game is in the running to win it!

I love how tricky the fish are to catch, especially without the boost powerup.

The sharks are very scary, even when you figure out their attack patterns!

The art is consistent, and very charming.

Well done dude!

Not much criticize to be had here...

The pacing is good too! Usually jam games need to be longer, but this game feels the right length.

I spent a long time playing this one! This is a really solid game, the mechanic is addicting & the progression is nicely tuned. You should consider developing this further! Would be good on mobile

Very fun game! I really like the concept and honestly I don't find anything to change. Of course simple but the story gives it a meaning  It's good that the fish swim away from you which makes it slightly more difficult. Thank you for the game!

That's pretty great! Despite the cheery music, ascending from deep depths through shark infested waters with 1 health is *utterly terrifying*. I got all of the upgrades, but, unfortunately, was unable to reach the bottom of the ocean, as an angler fish managed to pin me to a rock and neither he nor I could move :(.

I loved the music and visuals, animations on the fish felt great. Had a little difficulty getting the controller to work on the web build, seems like the game is specifically hardcoding looking at controller "index 0" instead of looking for the first attached controller (which was at "index 1" in my case - swapping things between USB ports a few times seemed to get it into the index your game was looking for, though).

What a wonderful game. Nice progression and overall the game is quite challenging and interesting. It was a ton of fun to play and the story is all too real. :D

Very beautiful game! I liked the graphics and the sounds a lot. Combining a nice gameplay idea with fish AI that is *just* a little smarter than our little diver, just creates a nice game to play and enjoy!
Overall nothing important to criticise. Well done!

I love the idea of the money ticking down every second. I did the same thing in my Ludum Dare 44 entry, though your in-game shop definitely has some better things to buy, ha! There's a lot of great variety in the fish, both how the AI runs away, or just the artwork. Marvelous work.
