The Long Loneliness by Stroe Andrew

[raw]
made by Stroe Andrew for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

The Long Loneliness, my first LudumDare since August 2018! WOOOHOOOO!

"Men like us, Mr. Shelby will always be alone. And what love we get, we will have to pay for." - Chester Campbell

Yes, I'm a big fan of Peaky Blinders and the character Thomas Shelby.

Made this game for the #LudumDare48 with the show in the background, rewatching it for the third time.

The Long Loneliness doesn't have a lot of philosophy behind it, but I wanted this game to be something more or less about illusion and this is why I added some of my favorite Quotes about illusion and reality.

You'll go deeper and deeper, and you'll have to complete each level before the oxygen ends. The deeper you go, the less oxygen you have.

Complete all the challenges and enjoy your adventure through a field full of amazing quotes.

Wow, I love the art style and the atmosphere was amazing. The controls were a little confusing at first but I got the hang of them. Great Job on this one!

This game is very pretty, the atmosphere and mood is on point, but I'm not really seeing the tie in with the theme that much. The presentation is great but the short gameplay kinda caught me by surprise. I still liked the game though

Great art and music! Controls were a little confusing for me but I was able to get all the way to the end! I saw you streaming on twitch for a lil bit so I had to try your game out. GJ!

Can't speak highly enough of the music and general aesthetic! The controls took some getting used to but worked well with some practice.

The graphics and the atmosphere are great. At first, the direction keys and the actual movement direction did not match, so I tilted the body to play lol. And then the last level is a little harder. I thought it was going to be a puzzle game, but it turned out to be a hand speed game. I had to memorize key sequences and press them quickly. When I was about to give up, I finally passed. Nice game!

This is really fun! I'm not sure I like having the playing field angled in that way, it makes it hard to tell which direction you need to push. Other than that though, this game was really awesome! (side note, if you don't get enough ratings to get scored, I'm gonna be mad)

The game looks and sounds really good. gameplay is a bit simple and the hit detection should take depth into account. But overall nice game.

I really like the art and mood you have created there. Couldn't finish the game, 'cause of the controls.

Was really frustrating to constantly push different buttons because of the isometric perspective. For me it was really counterintuitive, but that is the difficulty about, I guess. Otherwise nice cempleted game. Thanks.

Awesome game :D i honestly enjoyed playing. The artwork is solid and sets a unique mood. My only remark is about the controls, they can be a bit hard to master. Otherwise great submission.

This game is so great ! The music, the atmosphere, the graphics, the gameplay, the quote... The controls with the isometric view are difficult to master. Otherwise it's just perfect, this is a polish game. Well done, I loved it !

I see that the common issue here are the controls for the movements that are kinda hard to get used to. I'll do some brain-storming to find a solution and make it a bit easier to control :) Again, thank you very much

The art style is extremely cool! It doesn't seem to have too many assets which is okay because you do so much with quality art instead of quantity! I will say the controls felt a bit odd, the perspective being isotropic but using the directional keys. Aside from that I loved this entry!

Great mood! Most of the difficulty comes from the fact the controls are a bit hard to master with this isometric view, but once you manage to control the character it's a cool game :)

I love this game so much! The atmosphere feels extremely good! The music is kind of creepy and somewhat ritualistic, so cool ~ PS: Because I rarely play games with this kind of perspective, when I move I still have to let me think about how to go hahahaha.

Very great and fun little game with a nice atmosphere and music. I have only one note... On my (and every other) german keyboard the y and z key is swapped, so it is a bit unhandy to play, but nonetheless a great game :D

Very atmospheric look! Great music - did you make it yourself?
The gameplay itself is an interesting combo of puzzle and reaction time - it took me a moment to realize you don't have to do all the collecting in one life!
Graphics are nice too! The controls are a bit hard to wrap the mind around, I think the teleporting arrows mess with my sense of what arrow does what. :D

A super moody game! The atmosphere, tone, and visuals were awesome! Though, as a few people have mentioned, the perspective made using the arrow keys a little strange... But, not too bad, I managed!

The polish on art and music is really, really nice! It was also fun trying to navigate the levels as fast as possible - I appreciate that you let the player keep the collected crystals even when you lose a level. It was a little confusing sometimes trying to press the right arrow to teleport, but it wasn't a major issue. Very nice work!

Really liked the art style. Music + art together made a great ambience.

It wasn't super clear to me how far the shoot distance was. It might have been nice to allow me to shoot from anywhere. How far the "tendrils" of my attack extend would then teach me what my range is. It would also be nice if the enemy "totems" would die in one hit. When I first tried attacking, I just pressed X once, and didn't realise it was an attack, as it didn't have much of an effect.

It also took me a long time to figure out that I could jump to any teleporter in the level. I though they were linked in pairs. I think the use of arrow keys primed me for that. If it was 1,2,3,4 keys then I don't think it would have happened.

Overall, very nice entry!

The graphics were super good, I havent really seen anything in that style before, so I love it! The movement felt really nice as well. One suggestion I have is perhaps make the enemys and enemy bullets more standing out, sometimes they felt blended in with the enviornment. Overall great entry!

Did you write the music? It's very enticing, however doesn't really fit the game, I suppose. More of, say, Witcher vibe there. Overall, very cool design, loved the quotations. Was hard to manage some levels, controls just wouldn't respond. With a fine polish, this is a very promising full-game to be.
