Final Encounter by OccamsRazor

[raw]
made by OccamsRazor for LD33 (COMPO)
Final Encounter takes you right to the climactic boss fight of a fantasy RPG - and puts you at the controls of the monster. Customize your attacks, and then take on waves of foolish adventurers.

Make it through Wave 6 to complete the game!

Mouse controls only.

So, that was intense. As usual, I bit off a bit more than I could chew. The battle system turned out to be more work than I banked on, and I ran out of time to do some more attack animations and that sort of thing. But in the end, the game is complete and very playable. Hope you enjoy it!

I liked this one. It's amazingly hard, and it seems like there's a lot of strategy there. It's also pretty funny.

Hey, great game! I love that there's an real strategic element.

This may be the first jam game I go back and play a second time, just to see what a different set of abilities will do.

It might be nice to have a cancel option (click empty space?) in case you choose a spell and then change your mind.

Is there a way to do a basic attack instead of an ability/spell? I didn't figure that part out.

The sound effects are quite loud on my computer, drowning out your nice music.

I like the humorous names and text. :)

I especially liked choosing a weakness. That's an interesting mechanic

There were a lot of potentially fun combos, but the combat just moves too slow. I did beat it, and I like the depth of the combat system, I just wish it was a bit faster-paced so I could try out other builds.

Awesome work! Really solid turn based system and AI. I loved the random names and the variety of loadouts for skills. My only suggestion would be an option to speed up the animations as the game feels a bit slow.

The game is fun and pretty humorous. The names generator made me laugh. It required a bit of tactics, but I managed to win it. Graphics are pretty good, except the slight lack of animations.

excelent idea! i agree with the one who said that this game should be a lot faster, i don't even need to pick attacks because they are used in order, so making this game an automatic could be fun too because it's about seein if the combination of choises works or not (i played once and finished, i think i just made the right choises because it was too easy)

Thanks guys, I'm glad people are enjoying it :)

Looking back, I do agree, I should have found a way to make the combat flow a bit faster. There's always something that slips by I guess.

And I'm sure there is combinations that make it a bit too easy - I wasn't able to test all of them in the end, so there might be overpowered combinations in there :P

Cool concept and fun game! Combat was a little slow but it really made you think and I liked all the skill combinations you could choose from.

Pretty fun, and a great idea. Loved the name generator. There might be a combo that makes the game literally unbeatable. If you Choose any basic attack, dominate minds, devour souls, heal, and the unskilled weakness, I think the healers on the last stage are unkillable. If you manage to kill all the other characters it's just you infinitely trying to kill them and them healing back to full each turn

Ha ha, love the concept! It's great fun too. I did find it a little slow moving, and it seems like the wizards need something to do when nobody needs healing, they kept healing themselves for 0.

As you said, it was a big bite for the graphics, but everything worked well

Cool game, I loved the silly names which you gave all of your enemies. The turn-based mechanics were also really fun to play around with. Overall, I thought this was a really good game. 4/5

Nice story, good game. I included it in part 20 of my Ludum Dare 33 Compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/WVNLcoTqal4
