More Bass! by Substr

[raw]
made by Substr for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

More Bass! is a game where the Bass players of the world can finally get some well deserved recognition by showing as many guitar players as possible the power of those deep bass notes.

This is my first Ludum Dare entry so I hope you enjoy it! Made with LÖVE.

The concept and the art is very good. The idea is very cool, but the enemies appear too fast and there is not much sense of pacing, but other than that, there is a lot of good artwork and concepts in it and the goal is clear from the beginning without needing much explanation. Great job.

game feels real good to play. for the first minute i felt like a scott pilgrim character. being surrounded and then hitting the entire room with a right click feels Great. game gets pretty stale fast, but i think it's really expandable and has a great concept to back it up. i can see there being different types of enemies, dialogue sequences, boss battles, more instruments, more songs, a bigger map... the possibilities are near endless!

Oh man, I think this is my favorite interpretation of the themes so far! I should pick up my bass more often.

Random though, it could be really cool if the bass 'attacks' played a funky bassline of their own and/or matched up a bit with the background music.

Really nice art, too!

I had a lot of fun playing this one! Really satisfying how you can kind of line them all up and hit em all in a row. And when it gets later in the level and you use the mega attack -- really nice! This would be awesome to expand as maybe a rhythm game (better score the closer your notes are?). Great interpretation of the theme as well. My favorite submission I've played so far. Nicely done!

Nice game and original way to approach the theme ! :guitar: :gun: The mega bass is overpowered but it's enjoyable and funny

Rate this idea on the combat fueling the soundtrack, would like to see more. Liked howw the mega attack always arrives just in time. And because of the player contributing to the audio, it just felt wrong not to be blasting away those leadd guitarists - thats really cool pull on the core mechanic. well played

Nice first jam game ! Gameplay was simple but enjoyable. It could use more punch on the attacks and more feedback when you get hit though.

Nice! Super fun way to make the twin-stick shooter interesting. Also, great sound design and super creative interpretation of the theme!

There are definitely too many guitar players compared to bass players, so this game is accurate. Walking forward and holding LMB made it kinda easy after a while. Maybe taking longer to charge the RMB would be more challenging. Great entry!

Not what I expected, but surprisingly fun! Could use a rhythm mechanic where you play specific bass lines and the better you click the correct buttons, the better the sound wave is at pushing those guitarists back.

I really like the theme and how you made a basic shooter game fun and humorous! Well done!

The mechanics are simple but very fun! As your first jam game, you nailed the scope. I always overscope and end up trying to make big games and it definitelly doesn't work. I really liked the theme haha, congratulations!

Surprisingly addictive, got to 4275 on my first try. The one critique i have is that the enemy hitbox should be made clearer. I don't mind them extending that far in front of the enemy, but it should at least be telegraphed.

Very fun little game, well done! My only suggestion would be to have the bass notes maybe destruct when hitting the guitar players rather then continue though as it would make it harder (would need some rebalancing though). Either way, very good job!

I love this game's graphics! I was also pleased to see the inclusion of music (something lacking in my own game), but with the way this game is themed not having music would seem pretty out of place. The mechanics and controls are also solid. All in all this is a very enjoyable game :)
