The Limbo Runner by jk5000
Sport is all about going deep. But there is no sport, where you have to go as deep as in the 100 Meter Limbo Run.
Controls
Quickly click on the Space Bar to go low enough to go under the obstacles. But be aware the lower you go the slower you run. And if you go too low, you will fall. (See the Balance Meter)
Skip dialog version
I have after the jam ended, made a skip dialog version of the game. Every thing else in the game is the same, but now you can skip the levels intro speech by clicking on the Enter Key.
Used software
- UE 4.26
- Blender
- LMMS
- Audacity
- Inkscape

Good luck and have fun

Maybe the flow of the game could be a bit better if after failing the comment voice could be skipped.
Well Done overall!!:)
Love the concept, love the announcer, love the spacebar slamming.
I am terrible at it, can't get past the quarterfinals.
I like the sounds and the voiceover, the commentator is just the right amount of goofy.
It was a bit hard for me to know when I'm low enough - I've banged my head several times because I couldn't tell where exactly I am.
Also, my hand hurts a bit from mashing space . Maybe it could have a slightly bigger effect?
Nice game overall!
It was a bit of a challenge to find out if I was low enough or not with the camera angle.
My space bar is now pretty hurt but the victory was reached. :v: Great game, congratulations!
Also as a note, this game automatically opens SteamVR for some reason. Might be a quirk with Unreal Engine setting something as default for VR.
I know that the last level is a bit difficult (and perhaps a bit too difficult), but I also knows there is often people that wants more difficulty in my game. So I chose to give the last level a bit more difficulty then even I would have liked.
5s across the board! No notes.
HAHAHA, amazing little game here, had me cracking up! Could see this being converted into one of those weird full body arcade games only found at a Sega arcade center in Tokyo, with lines wrapped around the building.
Very deep game, really made me think.
Unfortunately like many others I was not skillful enough to be worthy of the name "limbo king", so I did not get to experience what would probably be another lol of an ending :) thanks
Congrats!
Эх, я всегда не очень любил спорт. А спорт не очень любил меня. Вот и тут - дальше финала так и не прошел... Хотя, мне кажется, что мои планки были ниже, чем у соперников!
Спасибо за оригинальную механику ^_^
Good game.
Nonetheless, fun game and interesting theme interpretation! The background music made me feel like I'm fighting in a gladiator arena  And commentator voice lines are pretty funny, help to ease the pain of falling over and over again
Good job on doing that by yourself in 48h !
two things tho, a way to skip the intro when you restart the race, and a way to tell how low you are compared to the bar.
Except for that, I could play and challenge my friend for fun, for sure !
I agree with you, a marking on the balance meter is cheap and distracting, but maybe a "ghost bar" around the character's head, or a "ghost head" on the bar, or some sort of "leveling lines" that shows how low you are.
Anyway, really good job on that game, really well achieved for a 48h compo !
But the mechanic you have created is a bit offensive.
Player should start over each time he didn't have time to press the space just one more time (and this may happen even when the player was going to pass the last bar).
And on top of it your game calls player "Looooser", to make him even more angry.
Think about it.
The core mechanic is fun, but the lack of an indication of how long I needed to go with the balance meter left me a bit frustrated.
Other than that, it's a nice entry!
Making something that some people gets offended by is for me not a issue. In reality it's really difficult to make something that no one can and will get offended by. And if you do, it will properly be very boring. When people play this game I of course want them to smile, perhaps even laugh, but frustration and some anger is also an important part of the game. And for me it's better that it makes people feel something (also anger) then they are feeling noting.
My only problem is that I can't figure out how low should I go...soo I always leaned as low as possible :P
That was hilarious voice acting! The game is quite hard. It was hard to figure out when I went low enough to go under the bar, and I felt like I could hardly press space fast enough. I managed to get past the quarter finals, but couldn't finish the semifinals.
Also, I found it quite funny that it says JK5000 everywhere. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Very well done compo game!
But, my ineptness aside, it is a truly impressive work for a compo! The graphics are simple but clean and the voice-over is great. When I first heard "King, nooooooo" I literally laughed out loud.
Best Audio of Ludum Dare 48. Easily.
This control scheme also makes the gameplay pretty interesting despite how straightforward the concept is. In order to win I need to mash the spacebar fast enough, and start mashing at the right time. It's pretty neat.
Unfortunately I'm not sure I can beat the last level. But I had fun beating the other two.
Great graphics, cool naration, simple gameplay.
I expected bigger speed difference between walking and limboing.
And thank you for playing my game :)
But coming across your game, i was immediatly thinking back at the jokes we had and it turned out brilliant! Hard game, but so well done!
Thank you for playing, rating and most of all thank you for your feedback. I hope I did not got any of you in any kind of limbo. Oh, I believe I might have done that, and for that I am sorry. But anyway, thank you all for a great LD, and I hope to see you all in future LDs.
