"Say Aaaah...!" by gilborn

made by gilborn for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

In this game you play a Dentist in his fight against caries...

Some useful tips: - The Cleaner is important. If you don´t remove the falling tooth particles, your drill will get stuck. - Removed tooth particles should be removed quickly - they tend to fall down and infect more areas... - With Mouse 2 you can rotate the drill. It is not the worst tactic to align the drill and the cleaner. - It is good to start a level with the drill already running.

You have to do 4 different teeth - after that the Endscreen will show you all of them in a row and how much of all tooth you have saved (My best result was 85%).

I hope the versions for Mac & Linux work, I have not the possibility to test them.

Tools that were used: - Sound FX: BFXR, a vacuum cleaner and my voice recorded with audacity - Graphics: GIMP - Engine: Unity - Compiler: Visual Studio Code - Music: MuseScore

Have fun and enjoy :-)

I really like the control system, hard to get a good grasp on but it seems somehow appropriate. The decays that started inside the teeth felt impossible to do well on, the decay started spreading so rapidly. I felt it when the guy started screaming. A memorable little game :D

Waow this is really challenging. I like it, the gameplay makes it so I want to play more to improve my results.

I really liked how the game both allowed me to employ but then judged me for my "can't infect the tooth if there is no tooth" strategy

And please come back !

Really funny game, simple mechanics but that give some challenge. It's a really nice take on the theme !

Sometimes the controls seemed a little off, like the cleaner slowly going down for no reason. I'm still not sure whether the tools collide together or not, but it seemed a little weird from time to time.

The visuals are clean and do the job!

The music and sound effects are very good. It was fun to see someone using Musescore too, it got me curious and checked it out. Thanks for providing the musescore file :)

Overall a very good entry, well done !

Great game, loved the original idea and the well-executed drilling and destruction mechanics. And a catchy tune to accompany the game, nice!

Minor issue though: On my dual-screen setup, the mouse cursor went outside the window, messing up the controls. And the last tooth seems impossible to get right, there was nothing left ;)

Oh man, this was really painful to play (too many bad memories involving a dentist).

The sounds were truly frightening (that is a good thing), drilling into the gum even more frightening (also a good thing), the idea and gameplay pretty original and very well executed.

The drill was slightly too slow for my taste, but overall I really liked the mechanics. I felt my brain melting while I struggled to move both the cleaner and the drill where I wanted (that is also a good thing I guess). It is so hard to stop the drill from going away while I'm moving the cleaner, ugh!

I must admit, I started with much lower ratings and gradually increased them as the horror faded and I realized that you actually deserved the points.

It really is an awesome game... and I will never play it again

This was actually pretty cool, and very fun. I've not seen anything like it. My cleaner got stuck once, I'm not sure why. I like how the infected area spreads and you desperately try to fix one area while the other's getting worse. Also really funny when the guy moans when you drill his mouth :D Well done!

@dninosores : Sure that you rated the correct game?

I´m just curious, because I wouldn´t call the levels puzzles...

Haha, this was a super interesting idea and implemented very well. Great work! The drill was super hard for me to control, but i think that might be intended? It was very slow to move around. My first tooth was 0% so clearly I should continue down this path of dentistry.

I was way to slow on my first tooth. This infection is spreading real fast
My second round went exceptionally well with 98% of the teeth remaining, a pretty good job! Overall I had a lot of fun, and I really like the take on the theme :v: Congratulations

This was absolutely horrifying :D I felt my own teeth hurt. It was surprisingly fun to see the damage I was doing to this poor man's teeth. Music fits quite well the eerie atmosphere of this ungodly game :) Thanks for the experience!

I enjoyed the rewarding aspect of being fast and skillful with your drill meant a very fast extraction and otherwise... a huge battle. It did feel like there was a bug with the controls because about halfway through a particularly hideous extraction I would lose control completely and the drill would do nothing but drive down into the fella's jaw... ouch. Happened both times I played (linux + touchpad)

What an hilarious game, the tone is perfect, it made me lough at loud at the total carnage in my first try. This is amazing how the theme, music, mood, colors the game mechanics to the best effect ! Brilliant fun!

@kraemahz , @vasco-freitas , @rolly :

There is a bug regarding the controls (sadly I hadn´t recognize them on testing at the LD): the loose tooth particles can fall on the cleaner / drill) so that they push it down. Sometimes with the result that you cannot end the game anymore, because you cannot remove them.

There would be a simple solution (to not let them collide), but now it´s too late to correct :-/

Thank you for playing the game! :-)

@gilborn Ok ! Good thing you found the cause! I have no authority here but in my opinion that's a change that you could make even after a few days, then write a changelog in your description to tell newcomers that you fixed that bug... It's up to you :)

This game was amazing  I've had so much fun! Also, found out, that if you get the cleaner too close to the bad tooth, falling particles can get stuck in it and you won't be able to move it anymore. Otherwise, it's a master piece

If an actor makes you hate the character they play... they are a good actor. This game give me the same gut twist reaction as when I watch a video of someone doing something stupid and winding up bending their knees the wrong way :skull_crossbones:

At the same time this game is hilarious and a lot of fun. I lost it when I thought I was doing well controlling a cavity and suddenly missed one particle that slid down the good side of the tooth. I had to frantically control it and wound up loosing half the tooth but it was great fun! "Literally Mayhem" is right, in the best ways! One of my favorites so far, great job!

I was hoping, it's not the actual dentist sim (or something). But... At least, the drill sfx is not that realistic, thank you). Well, the game is nice, anyway, even though quite straightforward. Fun graphics)).
