Abyss by BDenis

[raw]
made by BDenis for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

Use your hook to stabilize and move you platform down. Be aware of enemies, they will make you fall. You cant survive without your platform.

P.S. This red dots are connection points, that connect your platform to a wall, that platform can hang. Insects will
attack this points. You can place them by using HOOK MODE (its enabled automaticaly as soon as you fire your platform). Btw i have not emplemented rope visualization. Game.PNG

I couldn't tell what to do till I read the instructions. After i did it made more sense. It would be nice to have a visual indicator between each side of a tether or hook.

tense feeling game, I didn't get too far down

I think you have a really cool concept here, but in the execution it hasn't panned out. It feels like the critical part of this game is how you move the platform down and it just seemed hard to accomplish. When I got it too work, I thought it was probably due to me just brute forcing.

You could have removed the enemies and the shooting and focused 100% on just moving the platform by harpooning and I think it would be alot more fun. I think sometimes its good to focus on what makes your game unique, even if people were to complain about it being 1 note etc.

Props for trying something with the mechanic though, cool idea!!

Interesting idea. It is in dire need of a rope indicator :) . It was a little hard to move the platform because I could not shoot off the red points on my platform. I think it could be cool if you just had to focus on shooting the enemies or the wall and the platform would automatically rope to the point.

This is really interesting concept. Maybe the gun with hook could be improved upon but the overall idea protecting and moving the platform as your only safe space is very intriguing

I agree with the other comments, it's a very interesting idea but needs to be more visually clear :)

As others have said an indicator for the ropes would make it a lot better. I also think another improvement would be to change the crosshair to a different color it is very hard to see when it is black because it blends in.

It took me a while to figure out how to play, but then I enjoyed the gameplay and physics, nice entry!

Very cool idea. Like others have said already, it's just a bit hard to grasp the concept. But the idea/gameplay itself is really cool, albeit hard to learn and master. I think it needs some polish but you have a lot of potential here! Graphics/audio are very nice and fitting. Overall, very good game. :)

Cool idea and mechanics! Pretty challenging to actually play though (probably _too_ challenging if I'm honest). Definitely worth developing further!

Was pretty rough to get into, but I really like the premise, and with a bit of polish could be really fun. Nice job!

Left mouse definitely didn't activate "hook mode." I had no idea what was going on or what to do.

It took me a minute to realise how the controls are supposed to work, maybe because of the missing rope indication. But once I figured that out (you have shoot at your platform to set one rope point, then at the wall to set the second rope point), it was a fun and quite challenging little game!

@blackopsben just aim at platform and shot then you can fire at wall to connect platform to shoted wall. Make your wall's connection points lower so after you destroy old connections you could move down. The goal is to move deeper as far you can. That's all.
(Btw you can shot through platform)

Really cool game! I love the hook mechanic and the physics based movement of the main platform! I do think it is a bit too hard though. I could only reach a depth of 20, but that might just be me. Cool entry overall!
