Need more deep: Donut cover by Kurakurture

made by Kurakurture for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

Game about a little goblin and this basement.

This goblin feels sad, because I have't resources to make real donuts. Screenshot at Apr 25 18-17-34.png

The camera in a column is a really cool way to do a 3D platformer! It felt like the collision was a little too sensitive and I could get stuck a little too easily sometimes. Fall damage would also probably be good as the best strategy seemed to be just jumping as far down as possible. The art and lighting are very well done, fun game!

The camera angle is a very interesting idea, well done

Really unique camera angle. Loosing all horizontal speed when jumping did make it really hard to control.. tI really liked the lighting though, it made things look really dark (if that makes any sense).

Same as above: very nice looking with an interesting approach. Too short, but 48h is too short anyway ;)

the character is difficult to control. I like the concept. I wish the hazards were more obvious. I died to the same bomb at the beginning several times because it blended with the ground.

Good idea, but the controls felt slightly unresponsive.

That being said, I think if I saw a game similar to Downwell that had this kind of level structure, I'd be well into it.

The graphics and concept were nice but the movement was a bit weird. I wasn't really able to look around at all because of the acceleration. Their top speed was reached immediately and if you were in the air you couldn't control it at all. If they moved slower this wouldn't be a big problem but as it is, with one jump it's hard to not just fly over half the level.

I played through this game quite a few times since it was short, I really like the goblin art :)

A problem I had was that it was too easy to accidentally skip most of the game if you jump and fall past everything, perhaps there just needed to be a few more ledges to catch your fall? However, I like to think I hold the speedrun world record of your game now ;) Also I fell completely out of the world to my doom once, which was pretty sad

The circular room level design is a really cool idea and you did a great job implementing it so the camera movement and lighting felt right. The controls were a bit awkward at first but once I got the hang of it I was able to make it to the end. Thanks for sharing!

This felt like a pretty unique way of doing a platformer. Nice idea! The atmosphere was also really good. It truely felt like a dark scary basement of a goblin. The voxel model of the goblin was pretty as well!
I think some more feedback to the player could go a long way for this game. For example, sound effects when jumping/dying, screen shakes when dying (dont overdo this one :p), or even particle effects if you are up for that. That would imporve the game feel a lot, and I recently found out myself that that really makes a game more fun to play as well!
I also noticed that sometimes when I missed a jump I would just skip a large part of the level :p
Anyway, thank you for making this! Good job!

A fun platformer game. The goblin is cute :) I found that you can just jump down the hole and skip most parts. Maybe add a check so that it can die from falling.

Cute idea, cool concept with the camera. The controls and collision were odd enough that I found more success flinging myself into pits than properly avoiding obstacles, and I did get the donut in the end, so I'll call myself a speedrunning master.

It's a cool idea with the camera and movement but the way you can just jump down and skip like half the game isn't too good.

p.s. The art looks really good

I found the donut. Nice.

The camera angle was really neat but the controls felt like a bit of a struggle.
Fun little experience nonetheless :)

I love the concept! Though, the controls and collision detection could use a bit of refinement. If you decide to develop this further in the future, which I hope you do, consider adding health. That way you don't instantly die from every bomb and you can take fall damage if you just decide to fling yourself into the void and hope for the best (that's how I found the donut! lol).

Nice little game! I like the idea of "3d with 2d controls". The game has a couple of flaws that I think can be fixed easily enough. One is that horizontal movement sometimes stops when you are trying to jump. This makes jumps frustrating as you have to retry a lot. Another is that you sometimes have to take leaps of faith into unknown territory, and progress sometimes feels like sheer luck.

I have a favour to ask. You rated our game. As it turns out, I mixed up the accounts as I am participating in 2 jams. So the game that you rated has moved. Could you please move your rating to the new location (as in, remove it and re-enter it on the new game)? The link in my comment leads to the new location. Thanks in advance.
