Ascending Dungeon by BenPeterson

[raw]
made by BenPeterson for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

https://benpeterson.itch.io/ascending-dungeon

The dungeon ascends every other move or when you move into the bottom row.

Don't get stuck at the top above something you can't kill.

Weapon type determines movement pattern.

The bow doesn't take damage but doesn't move on the same turn as attack.

The bowstaff always swaps places with the target.

I think it should have some music just to have something playing in the background, but i had fun playing the game! Very creative

Thank you for the inclusion of sound effects, they make the game a lot better :) The artstyle is heart-warming for me and I feel, like together with the sound effects, it forms one really cohesive feeling.
(btw, bonus points for fecal knight ;))

I think this is a solid idea, innovative gameplay with the different weapon moves. It is kind of jarring at first, but I got the hang of it in a bit.

Sadly I don't have anything more to add as I don't think there was anything I disliked. I really enjoyed playing this, so 5/5 overall from me, great work! :)

@tiago-cruz Totally agree, I might add some later @drunk-wizard Thanks so much! Yeah fecal knight was really the muse for this whole project. If I had some more time I'd finesse the timings a bit and be clearer about what's going to happen exactly on the next turn to reduce the jarringness.

This game was really fun, I just wish the movement was more clear for what weapons moved where

I had a lot of fun playing this, although even after several runs I'm not sure I've really grasped the descending mechanic. I was quite often unsure of why I died.

I loved the character designs. Platypwarrior, fecal knight, and boom toad really made me smile.

This is good fun. There is a good ammount of variety and I didn't encounter any bugs, it's quite polished. The only improvement I can think of would maybe to add some music and make what's going on a bit more transparent. What I mean by that is maybe add some screen shake when the player takes damage, make the sound effect louder and make the number pop up stand out more

This game was more compelling then I thought at first sight. I really enjoyed it and it was very fun to think through what to use and who to attack. It would've been nice to have some kind of music in the background, luckily it had sounds so it was not completely silent.
Very nice job!

Didn't expect a game like this, I really like how the simple sounds effects play together. Also it just feels like I'm playing a board game, really nice little game!

Took me 5s to get it, but then, it was a fun experience. Puzzle-RPG? I'm in!
