I love the idea of having asteroid come from the depth, it might have worked great with my autostereogram effect to see that depth and understand when asteroid are at your level and when the planet is close enough ( on a much much slower speed ).
I don't understand how lives and damage work. The second player in one game took a lot of hits compared to the first player. Having some kind of damage indicator would help a lot.
Great work
After half an hour or so of trying, I finally got to planet n°2. As an addition to my previous comment :
- Having to click with the mouse on two different buttons to restart became very annoying, in particular after very short attempt (my shortest only lasted 3s)
- The planets are super pretty, but the first one is already very white, which makes the game even harder after 50s as the asteroids blend in with the background.
The ship speed is very hard to get used to, and still is an issue, but the more I played the less it bothered me. The absence of difficulty curve, or at least the impression of, is also an issue but it does make for an intense and fun experience without a "winding up" period, so it's a double-edge sword.
And the 2nd player's lives are bugged. After seeing Jason's comment I went to try and yes, player 2 can take a lot of hits. Might be an interesting way to try to see planet n°3 though, so it might be an unintended feature ^^.
Just like other people said, I think the asteroids might be too fast, at least at the beginning.
However I managed to get to second planet and survived 85 seconds ^^
I like the graphics in black and white, and seeing the approaching planets is cool!
Well done!
In my opinion, controls could be a bit slower (or with a lower movement step) to increase the movement precision.
Overall, great entry!
This is basically a polished amped up version of asteroids with way better graphics.
However, I feel like your spaceship is way too fast. This is a game about precise movement and going that fast adds unneccesary difficulty.
