Elegy of the Night by Reisen

[raw]
made by Reisen for LD33 (JAM)
On a fateful day, a detective arrived at a secluded village in order to investigate a case of mysterious murders. Will he be able to solve it?

================================================

Couldn't think of any mechanics for this content-heavy theme, so I tried to practice writing and made a Visual Novel instead.

That was some twist there. Nice job implementing that little trick with the name collection, I used to do that with a couple of my older projects. I liked the character art, it reminded me of patchwork for some weird reason.

Not much of a game but the writing was interesting. Excellent ending, took me a while to realise who this mysterious "Samuel" was!

Good history. But dosen't sound fare to me the real photos in game.

The only thing that I was to object were the assets, but it's a Jam entry. Good Music, Art and history -with a twist-.

nice twist xD but this is more like a joke than a game. Maybe with more options, something to actually really do, more participation or at least some way that i could end not killing him xD

Engaging story. Nice use of transitions and sound effects. Story includes vampires and twist at the end ... check :). Personally, I'd pass on the typing text effect entirely. Maybe a filter on the backgrounds to make them look more hand drawn could work for next time. Good job.

I'm still so confused how this game knew what my name was at the end. Nice job!

Not bad. Using the player's username was a nice touch.

Loved the feel of the game and that plot twist at the end. It was a bit anticlimactic since my laptop decided to have a _000 after my user name but I managed to get over that.

Hahaha! Nice! Now we're all monsters! :) I didn't expect that, and it's nice to see a visual novel in here.

It's a bit short, but well written. It would be nice to see some more, branching, even more twists and stuff. :P

Congrats! :)

Great music, nice images, and a wonderful atmosphere. Going in you don't expect much more than a standard "choose your own adventure" style game, but the great ending really sums it up. I was both surprised and laughing at the entire thing. Excellent work and a lot of fun!

wow haha that ending made the game! The story is intriguing. The text animations could be a lot faster, it's kinda slow. and the copyrighted photo broke the inmersion for me.
Great entry!

XDDD Of course, the monster is me. Very cool.
Have you been all the weekend photographing the village? XD One photograph had watermarks?

I enjoyed the writing and the characters. Definitely a twist that I wasn't expecting, regardless of the theme. The text animations and the fade-outs are a bit too slow, but the atmosphere was excellent. Being a potty humor connoisseur myself, I enjoyed the poop joke =) Well done and fantastic ending!
