I very much liked the mood and the style you were going with, but if it was me i'd balance out some enemies:
i'd have given the little guys less HP but have more of them, that way it would feel more satisfying to clear them out;
The big one fires a line at the players position (old one) so it's easy to evade, I'd have done "leading" the player, but more random spread for bullets.
Overall, it's a great submission, good job!
@enderr42 Ah yes should have made it feel like mowing down the little guys. And for the larger ones I agree that some weapon spread would have been nice.
@nocymer always have had trouble with performance... :/ perhaps it's just the WebGL dealing with all of it.
The one thing I've missed was some sort of decision making during the game play. Since I had just one weapon and movement, every encounter was about shooting and kiting (maybe a little tanking when in tight spaces). If I was able to for example slow the enemies, had some EMP to disable shields or at least be able to activate my own shield when I see projectiles incoming, it would bring some trade-offs and decision making. However, I totally get that the time is tight and it's better to have working and polished simple game rather than unfinished monstrosity :)
Anyway, good job!
P.S. The difficulty bump in Artilery department forced me to use all my secret kiting skills, luckily the bots did not lead their shots :D
Maybe the enemy are a bit too strong? otherwise love the music and all the atmosphere!
I thought the enemies moved a little fast and took too much damage. I think it would be more satisfying taking out a hoard of weaker enemies. It also would have been fun having an alternative fire, like a rocket or grenade with a long cooldown.
I really enjoyed playing it. Great work!
Managed to activate an elevator too close to the edge and it left me behind so I ended up falling out of the level.
The attack of the small ones could be improved, some kind of graphical effect. They seem to have an unexpectedly high attack range.
I also think some simple animation on the robot would go a long way if you are planning on continuing this project.
I really enjoyed it. Good graphics, good sound (however, the applause at the end was louder than everything else, so I wasn't ready for that.)
Very well done!
However I found the game design to be frostrating - Enemies are fast, can tank hits for days, have long detection range and tend to swarm, while your guy is slow and sluggish and have a weapon that overheats very quickly. The maps are also too large for how slow you traverse them, backtracking can be a pain.
I think that with only a few variable changes you'd have a very solid and fun game in your hands!
Upon replaying I avoided this fate and had no further issues.
The game itself is pretty good and polished. About the only thing that annoyed me was that if I find researchers at first, I have to go through the rest of the level to clean experiments and then backtrack (happend to me on the second level).
Overall, found the game a bit too easy though, and there is very little variety on what you can do with your robot other than move and shoot. Would be great to have more options, either melee, a dash or different weapons.
With some balancing tweaks, this could be an excellent game. Keep up the good work!
There were a couple parts where you can get to places where you shouldn't be able to go like if you don't go in the elevator all the way, you can jump out of the map and enemies can push you onto walls
halp im in jail!

I agree with other commenters about additional upgrades + challenge, but this was a REALLY solid jam entry
