DeepPsy by JoaoG

[raw]
made by JoaoG for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

Collect everything you can.

Win the psychological war in your mind and make it to the end of the day.

Every day is a victory, don't give up.

How to Play:

Just collect everything and find the exit (use the W, A, S, D keys and the mouse to walk)

The browser version may be a little unstable.

Sorry for the inconvenience, the problem with the link is already fixed!!!

On the idea behind the simulation:

At first things seem to be fine until you fall and get hit by one of them:

  • Deepression: you walk as if you have no desire to walk, without spirit, almost as if you are dragging yourself. — (Black Portal)
  • Anxiety: you are walking fast, you get nervous and start to shake. — (Blue Portal)
  • Panic: You are very anxious, running and do not know where to go. — (Red Portal)

The game offers three possible gameplay experiences based on different psychological disorders.

Each portal represents a psychological disorder.

Post Jam: I added a collectible item to the post jam version where help and treatment options appear in addition to normalizing the gameplay for a few seconds. (Download only)

Unfortunately, I couldn't dedicate myself to Jam as much as I would like, but here is my submission and this is my first time, as a programmer, using Unity for a Jam!

When I click on the link, it says "A password is required to view this page"

I got the same result as leorid, it looks like you need to set the game page to public?

Can't play neither. Maby fix the password issue and add information about your game. Maybe do a post if you sorted things out.

I played it for a little bit but I got motion sick really quickly. Consider making the camera not bob around and keep the controls in the hands of the player.

@leorid, @fizzbark, @desertmaw, @devga-me What a silly mistake  I'm sorry for that, if you can try again, it's already fixed! Just remembering that the downloadable version is more stable and more comfortable to play, at least for me.

@sam-minh, I appreciate your feedback, although this was somewhat intentional, each of the three portals offers a different experience, red is the worst, black is very slow and, despite everything, blue can be the most comfortable.

Very interesting game, I played all 3 versions, had to refresh the browser window to do so, a replay button would've been nice.
BUT I played the game 3 times, so it is quite good in my opinion, had a nice touch and was well thought out. ^^

@leorid, Thanks for trying to play again and for the feedback! Then, this button takes you back to the menu, where you can return to the game without having to reload the page, the other button in the upper corner is to close the game. I don't know why the web version deleted the text from the buttons.

@joaog Nope, The end screen looks like this:

(and after I wrote this, played it a 4th time right now, and took the screenshot - it suddenly switched back to the main menu, right after making the screenshot - so maybe I just had to click? Doesn't matter, cool game ^^)

Interesting game! The different modes definitely convey the idea of the different psychoses.

Interesting game. I went through all three sections. My biggest suggestion would be maybe changing the color of the walls for each to change the atmosphere a little more. In the depression section, moving so slowly in the dark halls definitely depresses the feel of the tunnels. However, for me, the darkness of the tunnels in the other two didn't seem to fit the situation. (Just my opinion). The quickening sounds and camera shake are a nice touch.

Interesting and weird game. Cool audio theme with "heart beat". This game looks like some kind of a philosophical experiment. It made me think about the meaning of life, in a sence.

Nice little experimental game! It was a bit hard to read the space sometimes, I think a texture on the walls would have helped. Also some feedback when collecting items would be nice

Fascinating game. The heartbeat sound and the graphics really made for an intense, nerve-wracking mood.

That Heartbeat sound really got me. And damn, playing with a touchpad in the Maze section was not fun at all - in a positive way.
After reading that it was the panic path, I totally get that feeling. Gave me real life panic coupled with the different heartbeat sounds to get to the exit.

Well done, interesting and intriguing concept!
