Inner Demons by Zettelkasten

[raw]
made by Zettelkasten for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

Banner.png

You have become crazy after participating in Ludum Dare year after year. Finally, at the 48th event, you have to fight your own fears and go deeper in the history of all past LD events.

Play through this content-packed rogue like: Fight your inner demons in various different caves, collect items and solve puzzles.

Controls

The game can also be played well with a controller!

  • Move using WASD / your joystick + A to jump. You can pass through platforms by holding down, and can also climb up ledges by pressing jump again.
  • Open the minimap using Tab / LB. When standing in a room with a path down, the minimap will show a red line to the next level this path leaves to.
  • Attack enemies using SPACE / X.
  • Quit with Alt+F4 ;)

Bug Fixes after Deadline

  • Fixed flickering in rendering, removed background appearance to make game more eye friendly.
  • Fixed item not spawning after killing boss in one room, fix that chicken cube room would never generate, fixed that one boss could attack to totally different rooms.
  • Fixed damage of some monsters, fix knockback calculation, fix death animation.
  • Fixed that player sometimes glitched through platform.

Very nice! Seems like it could get a lot better with a few updates and things.

Really liked the concept and environment. I found the combat and platforming a bit tough to get use to as it was hard to gauge the colliders. I think improvements on that side would really refine this game

I like the premise haha
The attack is rather slow, so I really think enemies should have less HP, and hte attack should start with the damage frame, maybe even reverse the current animation, to improve the flow.
Quite Good

Cool game! The visuals are what stand out the most to me. I like the premise, very meta. The jump feels a little extreme, and the combat is a bit rigid and tedious. I think it needs more variety and less length if the player is meant to go through 48 (!) entire stages. Maybe one room per LD jam would make it feel a little less lengthy. Great work!

Your graphics are really cool and I like the reference you made to the Ludum dare with your 48 levels. But I don't know if it's me (and it's really possible ^^) but I found your game really hard !

Great game atmosphere ! It's hard but graphics, FXs and game feel work nice together. It's a polished game, good job !

Graphics are amazing. Controls are hard and beating up enemies didn´t felt very responsive.

I like the idea it fits the theme. i like the main character. But i wish the environment had more variation between levels. Some sound would set a nice tone. But its game jam so nice job.

The concept of this was so cool, got goosebumps reading the text as I explored the initial room... I also liked the mechanic of getting life from death of the enemies (I also found it hard and died fast but am not skilled at platformers generally)!

Looks great! LD40 killed me :D
Sad that there is no music. And I almost got stuck in the tutorial area because I didn't figure out the climbing yet :)

Neat graphics, smooth gameplay and animation. The jumps were very high, which was fun, but also made movement a little tough. Your attack was slow and relatively small, and the pineapple-shaped enemies very fast, so I found the combat (other than the ravens, which were easy) very hard. I didn't really understand the map part, but I enjoyed going through levels and exploring, although nearly all of them had seemingly empty repetitive rooms that didn't have much point. But overall, very impressive effort for such a short time, and a cool entry.

A bunch of flying somethings killed me every time :( You captured the theme perfectly.

After getting down to a depth of 36, I think I get the gameplay loop and it's pretty neat. The level layouts feel like they could use a bit more purpose (looking at you dead end rooms!), and I was confused about what some of the pickups were. It was awesome when I picked up a ranged weapon upgrade, and I really like the level progression map. Other than some quirkiness with enemies, honestly a really nice game!

After playing this i have now a fear of pineapples. (Or whatever these little flying monstrosities were)

It was pretty fun overall ! Really liked it better after picking the ranged upgrade though as i had troubles with the melee attack on the pineapples.

I got stuck at the bottom of LD13. Like stuck stuck. Don't know why, i couldn't go lower, the next level didn't load and i could only go left and right, stuck in my fall for eternity. I also had a weird bug (or is it a feature ?) where i could grab infinite life. I didn't count the heart i picked, but i think i ended up with at least 50 of them (could see the health bar moving at each pick up)

But overall it was well made, and the graphics were really cool ! The pickups weren't very clear of what they were, but the palette was pleasing to the eye. A music would have helped a lot to finish the mood but i guess you guys ran out of time.

Good job !

Great mood. Gameply was a little difficult for me, but not so bad that I didn't want to keep playing. Visuals set it off for me.
