Black Ice Fracture by masterkrepta

Black Ice Fracture is a short Puzzle Game made for Ludum Dare 49 : Theme Unstable. 2021-10-03.pngYou play as a delivery driver for an Arctic research station.

You are tasked with delivering vital supplies to the base at each level.

The supplies are scattered across the Ice in a variety of places, but due to regular traffic and changing temperatures, the ice is weaker in some spots than others.

You must navigate this dangerous terrain to find the supplies, and bring all 3 crates back to the research station without falling into the water.

Controls are WASD

Each ice block you cross will weaken it by one point with the weight of your vehicle but beware. The equipment will increase this weight to Two. If the ice breaks, even if you don't fall with it, you may not be able to make it back safely to the research station and will have to try again.

(there is no reboot button, just fall into the water and the level will reboot. )2021-10-03 (2).png2021-10-03 (7).png

@lakea thank you for playing. Can you be more specific about the specific issue.was it a bug or do you mean your path was blocked and you couldnt make ot back to the base?

I did test each level a handful of ways and could complete them all, but some of them get tricky and you can easily break the ice you need to save to complete based on the path you choose

Thanks for clarifying that for me @lakea That is definitely an unexpected bug.

Fun game! I had an issue when i had picked up a piece of cargo, and fallen down out of the level, and when the level rebooted, i couldnt pick up any cargo again.

I just rebooted the game by shutting down and restarting. I liked the way the game worked and it was a bit suspenseful in the later levels when it was hard to map out the exact numbers over time. Thanks!

Pretty cool idea given the theme. I expected the floor to be slippery, it could have added a bit of chaos and difficulty. The volume of the audio is probably a bit low, I didn't even know it had wind before reading the comments (you don't want people to assume there are no audio). Solid game, good job :)

Nice game! I really liked the graphics and the ambient sounds. While I usually prefer grid-based controls for these kinds of games, it was pretty fun just driving around the ice. The bug with falling with cargo was pretty harmful - it softlocked me twice - but otherwise, good entry!

Interesting puzzle game that could be easily expanded with user generated levels.

There only one small thing. I guess it would be more safer to lock x,z rotation axis for a player. Since I accidentally managed to turn the vehicle upside down  during the play (unless it was intended of course)

This was really good! I actually found myself focusing on beating it and liked that it had multiple levels that progressively became more difficult. I would've liked some music in the background, but the sounds effects were really good. The numbers being very clear and the background changing to yellow and then red to indicate the stability of the ice was a really nice touch.

thank you @salazin I tried to keep it atmospheric for sure. (which has nothing to o do with my lack of musical skills lol)

The levels were really fun! I liked the take on the traditional failing ice puzzle! I found the movement a bit weird, I dunno that tank controls really added much. I often found myself accidentally skimming the edges of tiles in normal motion. Overall really fun though! I do think it could've done with some music as well.

Very cool and simple game. The graphics are really good for the time frame. I found a bug though. Even in the postjam version, if you lose and start over, you can't pick up the green packages. Nothing that a restart didn't fix though. Good job man.

That was pretty fun! It was kind of weird that you had a non-gridlocked player for a grid-based game, but it made movement a challenge in terms of making sure I didn't hit corners and it really made your train look unstable when you fell off, so that was neat.

I liked this but I feel like it needs a few changes (I played the jam ver.). For one, I think the player needs to move on a grid as I found myself hitting multiple ice blocks multiple times by simply moving. Also the player shouldn't be able to roll over, especially if there isn't a restart key. Other than that, there is a solid foundation here and you could fix those issues to have a pretty great puzzle game.
