Potion Trouble by Yorsh
Can you believe it ? You were making an awesome potion when it got very, very UNSTABLE. Quick, grab the requiered ingredients to stabilize it !
Download the desktop version for improved graphics (available at the bottom of the itch page)

Controls: Move with Arrows or WASD and pick ingredients up with space.
Tips: The requiered ingredients are shown at the top-right of the screen. Find them before it's too late. You can pick up ingredients that are not needed for now, but it will make your potion even less stable.
There are 5 ingredients : * Goddess Tears from the waterfall. * Toad Saliva from the toad. * Bouncy Mushrooms that makes you fly in the air. * Explosive Roots that makes your potion explode a little after a short while, usefull for getting rid of monsters. * Crystals that tends to spawn under your feet, some smoke on the ground will indicate their location.
You loose when you don't get an ingredient in time, when getting stabbed by a crystal of hit by a monster.
Good luck and thanks for playing :)

Art and music are incredible for a compo game. Great job on those sounds too!
I like the simple idea, and the cool little twists like the mushrooms that make you fly.
Thanks for the game!
My only complaint is that the pedestal was kind of annoying to walk around - I kept thinking I could approach it from any angle when I could only enter and exit it from the side.
@irwatts Glad you noticed these little details :) Yeah reading the instructions isn't ideal, but a nice tutorial was out of budget on this one !
@fluffygamedev ty, glad you liked it !
@niterich Ahah thanks, for this game it was only things I've done multiple times before, so I ended up thinking very little but doing a lot of stuff. I should have made the pedestal highter so it becomes obvious that you have to take the stairs, that's a rooky misstake on my part (or make it smaller and accessible from all sides).
Edit: ahah my bad I mixed up your comment with another game I rated also about potion (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/$269058). You must have wondered if what I’m saying does make any sense 😆.
I’ll have to try again your game to last longer anyway!
Thanks for the link, very fun to try a game with the same take on the theme but a very different game !
The graphics are incredible (especially for a compo entry!) and the idea is simple but fun. The only complaint I have is the mute button. It would mute the background music but not sound effects. Also after a while (or when collecting certain ingredients), the music came back.
Usually this type of games feel very static and boring but you managed to make it interesting with the enemies, the timer and the ingredients characteristics ( i managed to write that first try wow ).
Good job! Keep it up!
@zsharpfire I was worried about that as well, I wasn't sure if I would have the time to make enough stuff to make it fun. Good job on your typing skills, that's not an easy wodr !
The fact that it only mute music is intended, I figured that you can mute it with your OS settings if you want to mute everything, this way you can mute the music if you have your own and still have the sfx. Maybe a full mute is more usefull ? The music coming back is weird tho, thanks for letting me know.
Having said that, the only thing left to do is implement an online leaderboard!
@trexxak I may come back to this little one someday to release it as a full (small) game, we'll see. Leaderboards are a neat thing to add, sadly that's the first thing that's left behind when time goes tight^^
@maus-games Ahah, they have a scary looking attack animation that I wanted them to do after a while, but couldn't implement it in time. So they just walk around a be cute forever.
@jayjack Yeah my HTML versions always suck as for some reasons they take forever to build on my pc, so as soon as it looks decent I don't bother optimizing too much. Glad you had a good time on the desktop version tho !
The different effect that some ingredients have when you pick them up are super neat! Everything really feels polished and cohesive. Well done!
I did run into a collision issue once though. I somehow got stuck on the lower left of the blue circle thing. I think what happened was I fell off the top, then tried to climb back on while still falling, then got stuck. A minor issue for sure though, I wasn't able to recreate it.
@c1fr1 It happened to me too once :(
My character controller wouldn't climp slopes nicely, so I quickly designed a fix, but it ended up behaving weirdly with the pedestal in the middle for some reasons. I'll have to fix this after the jam. Thanks for the feedbacks !
I thought the music and sfx were really awesome.
I wish the different ingredients had a more pronounced effect on the mechanics. If there were changes I wasn't able to discern them much besides the jump effect.
I also had a case where the crystals spawned and sorta blocked me from a resource.
Overall I had fun. Great entry and well done!
Challenging and fun gameplay. Liked the variativity of components and their effects.
But I think there is a lack of game goal. Like you just walking around and finding needed components, without concrete goal. Maybe need to make components collection optinal? And on the other hand add your potion some negative effect (like movespeed slowing, or some visual problems) and you MAY collect components to prevent these effects. As for me, it would be more intersting and variably
Anyway, good job!
@dcrdro Negative effects would be a cool addition to a post jam version if I ever do one indeed. For the game goal, I much prefer to have some sort of ending at some point rather than a simple scoring system, but the scoring system is like 10 times faster to make :D. Thanks for the feedbacks and ideas !
@rayqdr That was my goal with the game, glad you liked it :)
Good job overall, very cute!
@ismael-rodriguez I should have probably dropped a shader or two to save time for some kind of explanations/tutorial, but I couldn't stand those trees and grass staying perfectly still ! I may come back to this one after the jam to add a little something to do, but that definetly wasn't happening during the jam^^
