Bunker Maze by Majadroid

[raw]
made by Majadroid for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

Bunker maze is a physics based puzzle action platformer. You have to find your way through an abandoned bunker and jump from room to room by using teleporters. You will face a lot of unstable platforms and boxes. Sometimes you have to destroy them, sometimes you'll have to use them.

Controls: - Move left right, look up down with cursor keys or WASD - Shoot with [ctrl], [alt] or [X] - Jump with [shift] or [SPACE]

As always: You can play in the browser, but for best performance the download version is recommended.

Thank you for this hint. I fixed that problem and the web-build also works now.

It runs well and the puzzles are well put together. Something that might add a bit of an umph would be more sattisfying block breaking and more of an emphasis on the theme.

This could be a fun concept - i.e. block physics platformer, but the execution is a little off. CTRL/ALT to shoot was not a good choice, I am afraid. CTRL overwrites the browser (I found myself bookmarking the game instead of shooting) and Alt caused me to spider my hand uncomfortably. Left Click was the clear choice for shooting!

Other than the awkward controls, the concept seems good. I don't know if I'm getting "UNSTABLE" from it, but the physics counts for this in a way with the unstable boxes. Overall, a good entry that could use some review, but otherwise a functional, and seamless game!

I liked it! It's a nice puzzler-platformer-shooter game. It felt like you can pass a level through different routes which is cool. Great job!

Nice concept, sometimes you have to rethink the route to the objective which I like in puzzle games. Physics and controls feel good, maybe some gaps for the end teleporter were a bit too small but that's not a big problem.

Super awesome game! Had a lot of fun and it! Puzzles felt interesting and used the mechanics of the game well. Would love to see more block types in the future (explosive, for example)

A very well put together physics puzzle game, but I really need to second some of the above comments, Ctrl and Alt are terrible choices for a web game.

Cool! Quite good level design and satisfying SFX... Took some time to get used to the controls but generally nice game dude.

Really fun puzzle platformer! I feel like this could be great if you took the game further. It felt polished too. I actually liked the controls it made it very easy to play with one hand.

This is a fun and well realized game!
I did find that later levels to be less puzzle-like, as I could generally just brute force the solution by jumping about...

Hi, cool entry here! There were some fun puzzles and it definitely felt like the game was engineered well!

I really liked the gunshot sounds and the voiceline for jumping! I realized at the end though that the music was so subtle and nondescript, that it ended up being unmemorable, although that's less of an issue than I've seen with some LD games where the music can be very intrusive, so no biggie here!

Also, like others, ran into the issue of simply bypassing alot of what looked to be actual puzzles later on in the levels by just brute forcing myself through or up around them.

Graphics were nice and discreet though, and the animation for the player character was quite well done!

Thank you for your submission, it was definitely fun!

My last games had much too "dominant" music, because I made it like I would create a song. This time, I tried to mak actual "game music", that fills the atmosphere but totally stays in the background.

The explosive blocks are a cool idea.

In the past I also ran into the problem, that some people liked my control scheme, others didn't. I also only testplayed the desktop version, so I had never the problem with the browser.
Next time, I better make a mouse only game

Hey there, great game from start to end! Everything works as expected, there are multiple mechanics and multiple levels with increasing complexity. I won't point out a single thing that I like the most about your game as I think having a complete game "experience" (visuals, animations, audio, ...) is the best you can achieve in a gamejam. So as I already said, great job! :)

This seems to be a really good game, and I do wish to finish it, but the CTRL and alt as OllieOA pointed out, meant I wasn't able to finish, I do believe that you are allowed to update your game to change that, plz inform me if you do, because I really want to complete this game.

@lazzor Thanks a lot!

@life-lich Under windows, alt and ctrl should be a problem. But if you want to play the web version, you may also use [SPACE] to jump and [X] to fire. I'll add this hint to the game description.

This is really fun. The pixel art is spot on. Everything is easily identifiable. The level design has a good difficulty curve and is well done. The background music is suitably unsettling. Overall, great job on this!
