made by mmisspelling for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

covergame.png

My second entry for Ludum Dare is an experimental game, a textual and visual story that dives into the mind of a writer. I am happy with how it turned out and while it's not the type of game that everyone would like, I had a blast making it. This time around I feel like I did a better job at coding and not overscoping, and Ludum Dare days always leave me feeling good.

Hope you like it! <3

Nice mood piece/character study. The text was interesting enough to keep me typing until the end, and I felt the music matched the concept well. One piece of practical feedback I have is the length of the first 'ominous disaster' video could be reduced - it went on long enough that I wasn't sure if the game was over or not. But overall, I found this to be an interesting experimental story.

I think there's something awesome here, but should be a bit less tedious writing so much (I know though that its the writer but its my opinion). I loved the fact that there're videos. Good mood!

This is super interesting. I couldn't get past the first bit until I saw your screenshot typing it out so I did and I figured it out. Really deep and creepy on going story :) I like it!
p.s. I have that same lamp :joy:

Wow that was incredible! Really creative, have not seen anything like this anywhere else in the jam. The one thing I would like to see is some more leniency in the writing, because I made a lot of 1 letter mistakes and having to re-write the entire thing got a bit frustrating.

Cool concept, and an inspiring spin on the theme! It's definitely not a type of game for everyone but it's not something I've seen before, so props for that! :D Good work!

Great music! I love the atmosphere you produced. I agree that the writing is tedious, I totally get that's kind of the point but it would be great if we could just type a keyword or something to move on to next sentence. Your sound design of the typing effects is really fun, I love the typewriter effect!! Really cool idea!

I loved everything about this except the videos, which really ran too long.

Speaking of which, is the game supposed to end on white noise? I think I somehow skipped through it and now it's stuck at the final words on the screen.

I really liked the atmosphere and some of the phrases and bits were genuinely really cool. The videos were great and i wish there were more of them, I also wish the story went a bit more somewhere, unless I missed the point :P

As others have pointed out maybe allowing 1 or 2 letter mistakes would've been great but overall good job and really nice ambiance! I wish the typing effect didn't clip as at the end it became a bit annoying.

Thanks to everybody that left a comment, I'm happy to see people enjoyed the mood! I do agree that I could have thought of a more forgiving way to type the text, and yes, some of the vids were a bit too long (when programming I had lost the sense of rhythm and timing lol).

@ryusui yup the game should end on white noise, I have a guess about what it could be that made you skip, I probably borked something in the code :^)

Very cool, I was def into it. I liked the videos, maybe they're a little long, it's mostly a problem that I didn't know I was supposed to just sit and watch, so I tried to close their window and click their [?] button, but nothing happens.

I really like the mood, the idea overall is pretty creepy. I was somewhat worried that the FBI would somehow see me typing this weird stuff and come looking for me lol

I got stuck on this screen, not sure if it's intentional, if there's a trick to it, or a bug. I kept typing in this message but it wouldn't progress.![writer.png](///raw/cdb/31/z/481f6.png)

@ismael-rodriguez hey thanks for giving this a shot! I'm sorry but yeah the game definitely got stuck. One would think that a simple idea like this would not be that difficult to code but I have definitely messed something up somewhere :/ the phrase was supposed to be "and i am writing the best novel" but for some reason it didn't fully show up. Thank you very much anyways!

Incredible mood and atmosphere, I'm a little jealous as I've been trying to come up with a similar concept for years now and you nailed it. Like others pointed out, I think allowing some typos (especially in regards to punctuation) would have been better, and it would be nice to have some view of the keyboard too to see the button presses as a visual feedback, but overall, pretty cool.

I found it very abstract and moody.

Incredible game! I haven’t seen any game jam entries that even come close to being like this one.

A really good game with some flaws that take the goodness away, sadly :/

For fast writers, the writing sound doesn't overlap but instead suddendly stops and starts again, which is pretty ear-shattering ( lowering the volume to 0 and renounce the music would have killed the mood of the game )

If you notice an error at the start of the phrase you have to click multiple times backspace instead of keeping the button pressed and having the whole phrase deleted, it gets to personal preference but it was frustrating to me

Lastly, the game ( apart from the writing ) is terribly static and can sometimes catch your attention ( it's not that immersive )

Overall a really good game that, with improvements, could become a masterpiece, Good job!
Keep it up!

i am writing the best review

during the entire game I wasn't sure if it was making fake typos or if i was making them for real, they only appeared when i was typing fast

i like typing fast and i enjoyed the game and the dark atmosphere

i played with the speakers on and it creeped the other person in the room out when i suddenly was typing the words on screen like a madman in the shining

writing the words really forces you to process them in a different way than just reading, i liked it a lot

i would look forward to a game where you type but they're certain mechanics and events tied to it.

I expected the game to change my words at some point or that i will have to type something else to get the "right" word

food for thought

now, you reading it

you need write your own review

Very interesting. Only issue I had was inconsistence use of the apostrophe. Also, get bored of typing as it went on. But, still a unique experience!

Becoming a writer is my dream. I am pleased to read that you enjoyed creating your text and visual game. Perhaps you can give a couple of tips on how to improve your writing skills? Personally, I found a way out and started turning to [nursing essay writing services](https://www.nursingpaper.com/) Fortunately, my written work is ready for me by professional writers with at least 3 years of experience. Moreover, I received a guarantee that these authors would write an article for me from scratch. And I got 100% unique paper.
