MEMALOIRS by Lovor

made by Lovor for Ludum Dare 49 (COMPO)

In this game you have to be in the role of a man of 65. You realise it's time to leave behind something that can always remind you of yourself.

Life in old age is pretty routine. You do the same things over the years. At the same time, each year flows faster and faster.

You write a memoir about yourself.

But an invisible disease unstable the whole situation. I don't think anyone can read your memoirs but you...

Tools used: - Unity - Aseprite - Ableton - Photoshop

A little about controls/gameplay - Mouse (use it for minigames) - Keyboard (type the text you see on the screen, but pay close ATTENTION to the positioning of the keys)

Please download version with (Little fix) there is only one change to the api keys for the record table to work correctly.

This is a very polished game, everything fits together nicely! The music, visuals and animations really complement each other. I found it a bit too hard to type on a keyboard with scrambled letters, and unfortunately after a while the mini games got stale. Overall well done!

It's a dark topic, but I think you executed it rather well. I'm not sure if it was meant to be, but the difficulty was ramping up for me really fast. In the screenshots you have almost entire page full of text, but I barely got two sentences in. Also a nice to see a fellow developer with a typing game haha!

I think the audiovisual side was also well made. The game looked and sounded nice. Great job, and good luck with ratings!

Excellent, very polished experience. Took me a minute or two to figure out the controls, but it was fun after that. I didn't get very far though haha. Neat PSA at the end as well.

Cool concept, but I couldn't figure out how to really do much of anything. Chased the birthday thing around a bit and tried to spell some words but the keyboard didn't really indicate I was writing and not sure what I'm supposed to be writing anyway.

I think it could've used a bit of a tutorial, but once I figured out what to do, very well made game

A wonderful little game, very well made, and that posits a serious quandry.
We must remember the strange future we are all destined for, how we might prepare.

Very well done

Fascinating, sad, and altogether very wonderful. You tackled a serious theme extremely well, both being sensitive and showing firsthand how awful Alzheimer's is. Excellent work!

Wow. At first I thought being unable to type at a certain point was a glitch, so I restarted the game only to run into the same 'issue'. Then I noticed the whole keyboard shift, and immediately realized what was going on. It forced me to type like an elderly person/someone with alzheimers! Genius. On an aesthetic level, and thematic level I really respect and adore this game, although the gameplay itself wasn't super enjoyable. That doesn't have to be the purpose of every game though of course, as is shown here. There's things like this that can be communicated so much better in a game than other mediums, games allow us to enter another's shoes by emulating their experience. Thanks for making this :) As a side note, I did not run in to any bugs or weirdness, so well done on the polish!

EDIT: Jeez and I didn't even realize you made this by yourself! Music, art, sound effects, seriously impressive!

@drtizzle @zantze @binary-coder @ugly-robot @zacharypinkham @holbinski Oh my god, thank you so much for such words) I am very touched that there are people who are impressed by what I did) thank you for playing this game and understand its meaning :D it was really important to hear that someone is still hooked on this "most boring game"

I like the accesible highscore list. I think every game jam game should have a highscore list for the playtesters.
I didn't really make the connection to alzheimers to be honest but I think it's a nice homage, none the less.

Cool idea, very innovative, and definitely great message.
Sometimes the game was kind of stuck for me, I seemingly couldn't press any key. But maybe that was part of the game. Maybe intended, not sure?
I also loved how the story progressed and you got older overtime.

@zettelkasten If you were a little more attentive, you'd notice your thoughts inscribed at the bottom from time to time)). They allude to the fact that the main character forgets the location of the keys on the keyboard. They change and you have to type with the keyboard on the screen. And if you get to the end of the game you will understand the meaning of it all))

The concept is really cool! I love that you included something meta like the music among the things that may interrupt you :P nice job!

Very polished and well put together game, I am amazed by the fact that you managed to do all of this during Compo. The idea is very fresh and the whole game experience was wonderfully creafted.

@transylvanian-blacksmiths The main idea of the game is that the character (you) forgets the location of the keys. Why this happens you can understand from the final scene. Pay attention to the keyboard below and the location of the keys on it, you need to type focus on their location

Wow, great to see a game with a message, especially a compo entry, nicely done!

Great art and music! Maybe the gameplay difficulty could increase a little slower, but it still fits the theme and the idea of the game very well. Great job!
