Playable right in your browser, Ebb and Feel is a game of balance and stability. Find your inner peace or let the insanity consume you.

Play how you want, challenge yourself and experience something.

Arrow keys to move (or WASD). Shift key to use items you've picked up.

Hint: take a careful note of the stone of stability in the bottom right corner of your screen. Watch the world around you as it changes...

Good luck.

Notes and known issues:

  • The animations do not always match up to the key presses accurately (they're close, but not perfect). I have a fix for this but in the spirit of LD I will keep it on a developmental branch. Check back in a few days to play the dev branch version how the game was intended :)
  • The story kind of...falls off. This is because one entity is missing from the code which will also be added to the dev branch.
  • Some images don't perfectly line up with the platforms they sit on and some platforms can be fallen off too easily. This will be fixed on the live version and are virtually not-noticeable unless you're the artist that drew them... :)
  • A speed up to the character movement will be added to make motion a bit smoother, based on one of the game mechanics... but for now, this is the speed the game was written and intended at.
  • Credits button doesn't show our team credits in-game.
  • The end screen could do with some information + a replay/end game visual...

Absolutely loved the atmosphere and music! The environments and character art were both beautiful. The falling platform mechanic was well-implemented, though they felt like they took a little too long to respawn.

The movement is a bit too slow for me, but the level art and the music are really pretty.

Art and music are so good! The movement and platforming mechanic felt a bit slow and I couldn't jump after landing on a platform a few minutes into the level. Otherwise love the atmosphere!

Art and Music were really good! Though the animations felt a bit weird to me, I thought that the movement felt good and was intuitive. Even if it was on the slow side.

The art and music are great. Wonderful ambience! The character controller needs work. It's too slow (if you want slow, I suggest a different walk cycle). There are times when the walk cycle didn't trigger and other times when the colliders didn't work and I fell through stable platforms. It's a great first pass.

@not-tomo we did consider speeding them up... but we didn't get any playtester or self feedback to reminded us to actually do it!

@3lstmsinatrenchcoat @sorrer thanks for playing and for giving feedback! Honestly, we were gonna roll with our sad level to be a little slower feeling than the others but we just never sped it up on the others. A quick and minor change I think we could easily make.

@hwaet @seracrooce I was literally so close to fixing the animations but I just ran out of crunch time :( It was based on a bug that I've fixed before so i knew what to do... Next time I'll prioritise better but if you wanna give it a another replay in a few days on our dev branch, please come check back!!

I genuinely love the art and music, that really brings the atmosphere come to life. Unfortunately I experience some unexpected things. Sometimes the walk animation doesn’t start and I just slide. Also the ‘enemies’ disappear sometimes, and I am not sure if that is as designed or if that is a bug.

@brooobin hey! thank you for playing!

The sliding is a known issue (oops, that's my bad) that I've fixed but don't want to add onto the main code branch in the spirit of LD. The enemies are supposed to disappear, although it shouldn't be quite so sudden as it is (and should let the player know more info about them through notifications). To explain, it is a representation of sanity that the monsters are disappearing.

Hope this helps!

@baconeta Ahh yeah it does! Thanks.

Beautiful! The artstyle with the music just sucks you in. The overall pace and pathfinding might be a bit slow for me to enjoy it to the fullest. Reminded me of Mononoke and child of light :)

The music... it's so good. It's give the atmosphere and the mood. Love it. I really miss checkpoints or just lives (hp), it's super hard to pass monsters and cactuses.

@st00nsa Monsters don't kill you, but they do something else :)

There's a few tricks to getting past the spiky bushes... can you figure it out?

Thank you for giving our game a go though! We appreciate you :)

@baconeta I have tried it again. So the monsters are not hiting me. But I can't figure out how to pass bushes... And what potion do?

@st00nsa ... it's kind of part of the experience of problem solving to figure it out! :) Try checking out the flowers on one of the early platforms... some messages appear as you play - read and solve ;)

Also the potion(s) has(ve) a slight effect that makes one of the mechanics of the game easier or harder, depending on where you are.

Part of the challenge is to work it out! :D

Environment art is beautiful!

Minor things:
Controls felt a bit "floaty".
Falling out of screen felt too long.
Going back to the beginning every time got a bit frustrating.
Would have liked some indications on what are my goals/objectives.

Music was good. Love the ambience.

Lovely graphics and music, creating nice mood. I appreciate not doing pixel art (although I understand why it's chosen so often).

Some minor things: character should move faster, I also agree with the "floaty" comment. The animation after landing didn't switch to walking animation. Some checkpoints would be nice, too.

The background art and music create a wonderful mood! The gameplay felt pretty punishing, some checkpoints as mentioned above would really help so I wouldn't need to backtrack if I waste the red potion for example.

I love the art. I also got a little lost, wasn't really sure what I needed to do.

Amazing art and fantastic music (kudos for the composer!!), but I did not understood the game  I agree with the comments above: it would be nice to change the speed of the character, the animations between states need some fixes, checkpoints would be appreciated, falling takes forever, the credits button is not working...

I would also like to have some more context of what each potion does, because I used them both but didn't notice anything (maybe more velocity with the pink one?)

Nice entry but needs some polishing, hope to see an update someday!!
