The Flamingo Files by Sherwood

[raw]
made by Sherwood for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

As an eminent scientist, you have been hired in a strange underground Microbiology Department. Where samples of unknown tissues and cells are studied.

Observe and check the samples through your microscope to detect unstable cells. Fill out accordingly the forms and don't forget to validate them. They are precious regarding the activities of the Microbiology Department you're working for.

A little Post-Scriptum

We ran out of time to fully crystalize the idea we had. We wanted to create a dirty area-51 / Cold War vibe. The idea was to study alien's tissues and cells without getting informed. So if this game had further development, we would push forward the scenario elements as well as the difficulty curve (with new types of samples and tools...) Consider this a prototype. We hope you will like our game, we had fun doing it ! 😁

Oh Also, sorry for the almost unreadable font. Gotta pay more attention on that next time 😁

text is so small and letters are confused like 'M' and 'H', and menu was also confusing at beggining... but overall it was a good experience and original gameplay

Using a really small color palette can be very challenging in terms of showing details, but you did a very nice job!

Great idea and execution!
I always love games about filling forms but this one's mood / atmosphere really sets it apart.

(I wonder if the main menu theme would not have been a better fit for the main loop?)

Great idea, very different. Maybe a little on the easy side but I imagine you could add some more gameplay aspects to ramp up the difficulty with some more time.

The art style and atmosphere you are going for is really cool! The main music is very quiet and should probably just be played at a louder volume. I liked the cell anomalies that you have to detect but I feel like either some sort of pressure (e.g. time) would have been nice or alternatively a longer animation cycle to make the player less sure whether they have really seen everything that there is and identified it correctly. But the atmosphere really sells this game.

Great job!

Took me some time to take apart interactible from background and get how to recongnize different cells. Also reading was really struggling. Other than that it's quite uniq entry I've seen so far with great art style and a take on the theme! Great job!

Well I had a great time. I like it very much. The only issue was the text, but once that was out of the way, the fun started . I wonder is it endless? Is there a way to not get executed :smile_cat:
Overall great entry. Good Job!

@morcado, @ashtheevil, @sli Thanks for these positive notes and yeah, sorry about this issue regarding texts. We went for a very low resolution that we forgot that text would be almost unreadable. Next time we gotta improve on this :)

@sli, @junber Thanks a lot ! The art style and music really makes it unique. We really wish we had more time to develop a tiny scenario and at least 2 levels with a new tool and , but this being our first game together we unfortunately couldn't go that far.

Maybe we will consider developing it post-jam :)

@lucdeligne Thanks and I am glad you liked it ! You might be right about the main menu theme. Maybe it could have been a better fit to the main loop. We'll see post-jam if we decide to do so :)

Interesting idea and really well excecuted. I played through the whole thing and got 20 right and 21 lives lost. Really fun, I wish there was some more indication of progress through the levels, but really solid entry!

Your game gave me a really good impression from the begining, and it trully was one of the best games I played so far!! Amazing art and theme! Also for some reason my screen got darker when executedd the game. Can't tell if this was a bug or was made on purpose

Very cool dude! I found the text hard to read, but other than that I thought the art style and game idea was really cool. I got a bit of a papers please vibe about it. Good luck!

Really loved this game. A fun and innovative idea, and visually beautiful. I would definitely love to play a full version too.

I did maybe encounter an issue - the first time I played it, then intentionally input some wrong answers until I got an ending screen. The second time I played for a while with no errors, then when I tried to end by inputting wrong answers nothing ever happened (even when I spammed it a lot).
