I think it would be even better if you turned the things that make you instantly lose into heavily increased difficulty. In particular, the more items you collect on a box the more you naturally tilt toward it so that keeping yourself balanced if you don't distribute them equally becomes so hard that you fall down. As for the bomb, if you catch it it should explode and tilt you heavily in the opposite direction and maybe even partly or completely empty out the box you collected it in.
Overall this was great fun, amazing job!
I loved the aesthetic, and the fact that different objects affected your player in unique ways, but it would be cool to have some sort of notification when you get those, so you can kinda understand what's happening. Well done!
I also love the sense of humor, not only does the clown fall off the rope but ALSO gets eaten by a shark! That level of detail isn't super common in GameJam games, but really adds a lot of charm.
Every single time I died was due to bombs, I just wasn't able to determine in time which items I should pick up and which I should avoid. Not sure if that's a me-problem or if it could be made a bit more clear. I had to constantly swap my eyes between the numbers on the boxes and the top of the screen, so it was too much for me to also mentally parse what the item was while it was falling.
I edited and uploaded my playthrough to YouTube if you wanted to check it out
