Controls are WASD or arrow keys

Space to jump

You can hold jump while on the ground to charge it up. The jump is executed when you release the key.

If you hold down and press jump you will do a hop instead

Press B or Lshift to punch

The ape gets angry if it's spat on by those disrespectful rats

The music fit the game very well. The notes on the background helped. I just wish there was an in-game explanation of the controls. After 5 times of not knowing how to charge my jump (no in game controls explained) and falling into that pit. I just gave up.

But the artwork is cool! simple and its funny! The music for it fits perfectly and sounds great!

If you had written the controls on the background in the game itself, that would've made it easier for me. I'm bad at games in general so my review may not be accurate. I enjoyed chuckling at the theme! thanks!

I subbed to the musician who made the audio. i enjoyed that part very much!

Really fun game. I did not get the controls at first but after some tries I did. The music and audio effecst were nice.

Got to the end! Controls were a bit tricky, some blind falls and crazy momentum, but overall it controlled pretty well. Artwork and sound were top notch, good job!

Cool sound effects and audio, very fun overall. Loved the berserk mode mechanic it fits the theme quite well and adds something spicey I died just before the end I think x), congrats !

Played for almost 3 hours, love everything about this game, the movement and the hops are so satisfying. my lowest time was 17.82s. I dare any plebian to try and topple me.

I do really like the art style, it stands out pretty well and was the reason I originally clicked on this game. I ended up playing this for longer than I originally thought I would, the way it controls is surprisingly satisfying for how simple it is.

Adding the small hop was a pretty good idea, otherwise I could see making smaller jumps getting pretty tedious after a while. I do wish that it went slightly higher though so that you could clear the rat projectiles with it, that way it could be a nice reaction tool for when you get caught out a bit

I think adding some kind of indicator as to how big of a jump you've charged would help a lot too. Maybe a "power" bar or something? Just some way to tell roughly how far you're going to go when you release the jump button.

Good job though! One of the better platformers I've seen for this jam imo.

I mean, max points for humor this was hilarious! I love the art style and the all around look. It's a nice platformer. I think an indicator to let the player know how much charge they have in the jump will help the game a bit. Like a sound, meter, or the ape getting more red or something. Great work!

Fun game, love the graphics. Those rats are so stupid and deserve to be punched and jumped. It takes a bit to get used to the hold to jump mechanic, a chargeup bar would be nice to have there. Haven't gotten near to the record speedruns, but might try more later! Nice job!

Controls were a bit hard to get used to. No matter how much I told my hand to release shift to jump they wouldn't do it. Once I got the hang of it thought it was really fun. The art and sound design is great!

I dug this! The artstyle is really charming in a DIY way. The movement felt very natural, and I like the idea that rather than taking damage, your character just ends up more likely to fall into a pit. Great work!

Great job with the game! the unresponsive jumps add a lot of challenge which im not used to in a basic platformer. the sounds and death screen were on point. I think if there were a jump meter, or some extra sprites for charging instead, that would be really nice. Love seeing the speedruns!

ctrl + f for Harambe makes me sad. Still miss him :'(

Super funny concept and great execution! Loved the "mixed bag"-state of being angery a lot! Also the artstyle, while simple, worked perfectly in the games favor! The game must be very popular aswell, as it was recommended to me to no end on itch.io, so grats! :'D

The style of the game is really unique and inviting. I had a blast playing it.

For "speed run" kind of games, I would prefer not to have to press "continue" every time. But that's just me!

I agree that you used the theme really well to add challenge.

Really good game! Loved the graphics and the getting angry mechanic was nuts. Only complaint is hitting continue after dying. I wish you could instead hit a button on your keyboard instead of having to move the mouse. Other than that, great game!

I've added an updated build, based on your feedback.

= New features:

There's a restart button (r).

Better explanations of controls.

The ability to punch using Lshift.

A small map update, remedying a leap of faith. This shouldn't affect the validity of any speedruns. It's out of the way of the route used.

The "feature" of no longer being able to use up as jump. The game doesn't control well if you do, so I'd like to force you to use space.

= Other stuff:

I would've added a charge indicator, but the code wouldn't work with me, in a way I liked.

A webgl build was another thing that should've been created. The way the art was imported made this not doable, not without redrawing or segmenting large portions of art.

I don't wanna spend too much time on the project, so I wasn't willing to get my hands dirty with these things. That's not to say I don't have intentions of expanding upon this idea, in the future.

The funny graphics made me test this - wasn't disappointed! Loved the humor and the weird characters. I'm not particularly good at the game but it didn't stop me from giving the rats a *well deserved* punch in the face. Amazing that there's already speedruns of the game!

Whoa really neat idea to have my character become unstable when getting hit. Way more interesting than just taking damage. It was really well executed! I felt super tense every time I was spat on, and I would clench and hope I wouldn't fall off. Fun game, great work!

I am so sorry, I punched the red button! This a good example that you don’t need too much fancy things to have a nice core game play. Suggestion: A jump energy bar in form of a banana would have been nice. :banana: :smiley:
