Purps

This is a tale as old as time... Every 100 years there is a peace conference between the three great nations: the fire trolls of Itsa Hawt, the mini frost giants of Chilli Nyps, and the dirty little forest goblins of Barkee Woods. These three nations work together to protect the ritual site which is rumoured to house a great and terrible power.

During the last meeting, a pregnant human woman stumbled upon this magical meeting. The kings of the great nations were outraged and demanded a sacrifice be made. They used their creepy spells to steal her baby but they also accidentally gave this newborn child powers from each of their nations. The woman was never seen again.

The kings became bored with the baby shortly after its first poop and left it on the edge of the woods. The baby was found by a real evil warlock, named Imma Badgui. Imma raised the child and nourished its magical abilities, with the ultimate goal to steal the power the three nations protected. The warlock and the child always wore purple cloaks and the town’s people referred to the child as Purps.

Now Purps has been tricked to attack the ritual site and release the power. Although Purps has honed his skills he is still unable to control his abilities completely. He cycles through the three types of magic he was given by the kings and often erupts with surges of magic for unknown reasons. So yes, a classic story of an orphan boy with magic powers who is off to kill a bunch of mystical creatures to unleash a bad power for an even badder warlock.

@drfallos! Nice!!! and thanks. You hold the next projectile in your hand - hindsight its a little hard to tell when blasting away.

Defeated the boss. My main quibble is the font for the story was difficult to read but besides that the game had good gameplay and the boss had interesting attacks.

The moment I realized my left-click spam macro works here, the boss stood no chance. :)

The matching colors shooting mechanic is cool and I think could really be further explored, I'd only say that the game could use more visual feedback on which colors match and what the next projectile will be

I spent a lot of time running around the map and shooting spells. When you lean against the wall, spells don't come out in the right direction. But a lot of fun, I loved it when the boss arrives and the screen shakes.

I like the pixel art. Music is pretty sweet. Cool little area to play in and good mechanics. Great work.

That was the most chaotic game I’ve played so far. lol There was things happening I didnt know if it was me or the boss doing. I love the sprites, if you keep polishing it will be amazing!

Releasing a ring of spells is quite satisfying. I was just able to defeat the boss with hardly any health left! I like the idea of seeing your next spell and choosing something to do with it, but in practice I just mashed left click haha.

I enjoyed the boss fight a lot- the different movements and attacks gave it a lot of character. Great job!

Nice work!

This reminds of a previous Ludum Dare entry I did called "Bloodbath" where I would run around the map killing bad guys using blood magic that I would cycle through.
Good memories :')

I wish there was more usage of the space bar. It came in really handy for the boss fight, but for everything else, it wasn't needed.
One thing I would add to this game is the possibility to control the volume of the music, because it was set at maximum volume compared to everything else.

Good job nonetheless and best of luck! :D

A nice take - the art was pretty good. The boss was just bullshit enough to not make me want to quit haha! It was a good crack at a story, and you embedded humour into the game. I liked the premise and why the player character is unstable!

I liked the CS spreying feeling on our attacks. I thought i am the boss but real boss showed up and slapped me good. Music is nice and catchy. Love it!

Loved the boss fight. The pixel art is good, and the story had some nice humor to it. The game could use a little more feedback on which attacks hurt which enemies. I ended up just spamming left-click all the way through.

Good art and nice story to back up the mechanics. Might be cool if the attack types weren't all the same kind of projectile, I mostly just spam-fired until an enemy was dead.

I like the simplicity of everything. I knew exactly what I have to achieve and had some idea of how to get there. The magic bolts I shoot is as fast as the character movement which was a bit weird. But overall fun game!

I initially thought I had to specifically target the right kind of enemy with the right projectile but it ended up easier to spam fire instead, I defeated the boss after a couple tries. The boss art was pretty cool, the game has good potential.

Nice idea! At first I tried paying attention to which element was coming up next, but the boss was so hardcore I just blasted him like crazy, haha. great work!

It's really fun to watch the flurry of spells spread out across the scene. I do love that. It's a nice idea.

Cool story intro and fun top down shooter. I think it might of been better to have the player toggle between fire ice and nature power with the press of a key instead of it being random, because I ended up just mashing shoot button until enemies where dead, which is fine but it made the colour of magic less important to concentrate on. Fun game still, and liked the boss :)

Enjoyed the story a lot haha! Nice art. Suggest adding a back button on intro story/instructions bit, arrow keys and agree with feedback on screenshots but v Entertaining game right from the beginning :D Well done!

Made me think about Enter The Gungeon. A nice little game, but I must say the difficulty of the bullet hell part is real! Was rolling around to try to avoid being shots ... but still got shot a lot ^^ Good work overall!
