Tesla Coil by marbles
* Post-jam: I increased the player's damage (Web version)
* Player's damage in original version was too low (Windows, Linux, Mac)
The king wanted you to be a knight so he sent you to the wilderness to train.
But your dream is to be an electrical engineer so you brought your tesla coil for a test run.
Unfortunately, it's still unstable and it can hurt you. And we don't know when it will go haywire!
When it goes haywire, all you need to do is restart it in the control panel but be careful 'cause even the software is buggy!
You also brought your thick and heavy rubber umbrella to protect yourself.
Controls:
Move - A D
Jump - W / Spacebar
Use umbrella - Shift / RMB
Attack - LMB
=== PS: Art isn't mine. The only art I did is the tesla coil, umbrella, and hp bars.

I liked the idea of having to protect yourself while fighting, creates a tense back and forth flow.
Clearly the art, sound, and onboarding has a lot of polish for a game jam.
I would have liked the enemies to have less health. This would allow the difficulty to ramp up a little slower, giving me a little easier time earlier on.
I think this is a great concept but I think it could be improved by turning it into a level based game rather than a 'horde mode' like you have here. In subsequent levels you could have a variety of enemies, different tesla coil configurations, multiple tesla coils, etc.
Art is really good. I love the animations and effects. They're really high quality for the time you had. I'm usually a lot more skeptical about forgoing outlines on pixel art, but you've really made it work. As for the actual gameplay, I always felt like I had a lot to do, which is important. Hack and slash combat is well explored, but when paired with giant tesla coil threatening to kill me it becomes much more high stakes. Overall I really enjoyed this experience.
@circle Thanks, but the art isn't mine except for the tesla coil and umbrella as I wanted to focus on polishing and adding game juice.
@kwiper Thanks! I thought it was communicated during the brief intro but oh well, I guess you just wanted skipped that part. I probably should have made a quick tip during the game or I should have added it in the TL;DR part.
there were some intense situations!
good job!
That was a fun game but yeah I feel like the damage was little too low.
I would prefer it if it only shoots at me in one mode, or maybe gives enough warning so you can quickly block it.
Too bad I was not dextrous enough to hold the umbrella and press the repair keys at the same time, so I usually died when the tesla went haywire.
Anyway, the game had good mood and the idea was funny.
@matterlinx Yeah, I didn't realize the UX issue when I was making it. Thanks again for playing!
I think I'm gonna just leave it that way, I want people to have fun instead of having a hard time killing enemies
