marble maze hero by daniel

[raw]
made by daniel for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

Help the sure-footed hero slay the goblins spawning from their camps as quick as you can. The goblins may not have the best balance, but they can still pack a punch! Level up your arsenal as you fight, and make sure you don't run out of health.

Left click to slash your sword when enemies are near. (When unlocked) Right click to shoot arrow. Enemies that fall through the holes will respawn, so try to keep them on the board.

I enjoyed this. The combination of balancing and attacking, of trying to bring the enemies close, but not too close, makes for compelling gameplay. You can see my testing/review of the game in this video:

Wow! And thank you for making this game! I had a blast and felt very nostalgic at the same time =). In my eyes, you just won LD49

Clean visuals, gameplay is certainly applicable to the unstable theme. Arrows felt like they didn't do much. Could have had the hero's village below the board so when the enemies dropped down they killed a villager, meaning dropping too many would be an alternative way to get game over.

@lakrits We had a few ideas for what to do with the holes in the board, but we had to settle for what worked in the time given. One of our ideas was to have a cave system that monsters would move around in before crawling back to the surface, but your idea sounds better. We wanted the holes to be a punishment, and if the monster "escape" to attack the town that would be a great metaphor.

And yeah, the arrows feel very underpowered :P.
