Rolling Tower Clash by quadtree

[raw]
made by quadtree for Ludum Dare 49 (COMPO)

Defeat the other towers by knocking them down to win the tournament! You win if your opponent is knocked down or out of the arena.

Note: Balancing can be a little tricky at first, so I recommend new players start on Easy difficulty. Selecting a tower starts the game, so pick the difficulty first on the setup screen, then select the tower.

Controls:

  • A/D or L/R Arrow Keys: Movement
  • Mouse Move: Control Fist Location
  • Left Click: Punch towards the current cursor location
  • Ctrl+R: Return to setup
  • Ctrl+Q or Esc: Exit game

Achived somewhat a win, but i didn't really understand how.
The lose state seam a bit random and some battlegrounds are way harder then others.

Other then that I think that there is a foundation for a solid game, but it needs more polish

I liked the graphics and theme of your game. But I found it just to hard to control. If I just moved forward, I would fall to the ground and lose. The punches were not affective at all and if I moved to the side of the enemy, I would change direction such that I could not punch the enemy anymore.

This game is amazing! I really liked the physics based combat. It did sometimes act weird and it would be nice if there were a way to recover from a hit. The sounds and music fit the game well.

Very cool concept.

Really cool! The graphics are nice and the robot physics work great. I did win all the rounds by just holding down d so maybe it could be a bit more challenging.

a very good looking game, but quite difficult to control, although it is very well done.

I had a lot of fun playing this - I was yelling at my screen! I could see a post-jam/full release being a hit .. especially with multiplayer!

This was really fun!! Awesome job with the physics and the bots :)
This was a really fantastic jam game. It took me some time to figure out the meta, but once i did i really really enjoyed it. Beat the game on hard with meteor

I think a couple things could maybe take this to the next level:
First, if the game moved about twice as fast it'd be a lot more interesting to process and mess around with. If it took the robots less time to be close enough to punch each other, and if the punches were sped up (as they are now they feel slow and a bit unresponsive) the whole game would get a lot more oomph in the feeling. In general, more force and more acceleration feels better.
Second, Audio is such an important point of the game - The background drums as they are set the mood in such a good way that it continued to make playing enjoyable. Awesome job on that sound :) If there was something to carry the rounds through each other, like cheering, a different drum beat, or a fanfare or something - it would make the whole game feel super super connected.
Third, a shader or something around the robots to make it really clear to the player when it's about to tip over - something to flash red as it gets closer to danger just to give the player a bit more feedback.

None of these things mean the game isn't already really really amazing - this is honestly a very well done jam entry. So, thank you for making it - it was fun to play :)

Unstable robot wars, I liked it lol. Great idea for the theme and it is fun to play too. Quite difficult to master the harder levels, which is good, but once you build up a momentum for your attacks you can whack them off the screen. Good work, you don't get many beat 'em up style games on jams.

I felt easy was very easy so I just went to hard directly but that wasn't as easy as I expected haha. I like the idea and it was quite interesting to try and come up with strategies to overcome the huge limitations of the robots. The fact that when you get punched it's very hard to recover so you hade to instead anticipate the punch and lean into it. Well done and nice with multiple difficulties

Really cool idea, and pretty well done! I must admit that even after a few games I couldn't totally grasp the nature of the controls, why sometimes I could move and sometimes not, and when exactly the arm would indeed follow my mouse. Maybe some more work needed to perfect the controls, and then you'd have a truly awesome game 🤩

This was a fun game to play. It was satisfying making my robot hop up and punching the opponent in the head. Getting an KO hit like that felt great. The controls were a little difficult. It felt like there was no way to recover once your bot started to tip.

Fun game, the jump from easy to medium is quite big .

Very cool idea! It can be developed into a full-fledged robot fighting game, I'm just delighted! I wish you good luck!
