Jörmungandr by placatedduck

[raw]
made by placatedduck for LD33 (JAM)
Jörmungandr hungers for small red pebbles. Avoid the spiky blocks! If you approach a body segment angled across his field of vision, Jörmungandr will glide either under or over itself up for awesome 2.5D action! Moving into an existing overlap point or moving into a segment that Jörmungandr can not see will result in damage!

Not sure why the head shakes up and down like that. Seems a bit strange.

Classic arcade action, but I think there should be a bit more play area above the player for when the Jörmungandr grows around the pillar =)

Thanks for playing! One of the distinctive features of the this version of snake is that you can run over your own body. =) You need to approach at a reasonable speed and not be approaching an existing intersection point.

I love the innovative idea of using the cylinder as the field of play in the game to create an ouroboros; brings the concept of Snake to a new light. Graphically, there could be some improvement, especially with the snake's head. I didn't note any increased difficulty and the health bar was too substantial to bring about challenge to the game, but nonetheless this works as a good idea in practice. Good job!

Thanks for playing, chikun! There is a difficulty curve, but maybe it's too shallow for your snake skills. ;)

We would also like to correct one of our previous comments about approaching at a reasonable speed. The actual condition for crossing over requires that the segment to be cross be angled across Jörmungandr's line of sight.

I got to 46 points and was wrapped a few times around the tower, what does it look like at a ridiculously high score?

Thanks for playing, disperse and Realize2D! Well, I haven't gotten beyond 51 points myself. ;) In theory someone might be able to coordinate a very intricate pattern around the tower ... =P

The cylinder idea is pretty neat! But the game is pretty hard right off the start, and not in a good way, more of an uncontrollable way, as in things come by too fast to react to easily, and you move too fast to make accurate movements, at least for me. It also got boring pretty quickly. Otherwise i thought the idea was cool!

This game is really freaking cool. Most endless runners I'm like "meh, ok"...but I was captivated to see how giant I could grow and loop back onto myself. Really enjoyed it.

Nothing to kill or destroy, that's a good idea. Your gameplay is tough, addictive. It remind me the snake...but with innovation.
Unique game in this gamejam

I thought this was a really cool idea at first but in practice it didnt work out like i had thought...it just seemed needlessly difficult to avoid your tail. I think with a bit of thought i think you could fix it because this is a really cool idea!

Wouldn't run on Pale Moon x64 (a Firefox port), was only able to hear the music. Worked just fine on Chrome though. Haven't seen a snake game quite like this before and the music was superb (have I heard it somewhere before?). Got to 63 on my first run, could've probably gotten further but my interest in the game was already ending at that point. On my second run I just tried to coil over myself as many times as possible and boy did that look interesting, albeit not very usefull :P.

I love norse mithology! It could be a good refreshing take n "snake", but you probably need a wider game area to make player have a real fun. Nice cncept though, yuo should think about some gods to fight the snake, that could be a great add.

Felt like an interesting version of the classic snake! Except I don't eat myself.

Nice and innovative game ! On my keyboard, the s is above the w. So I naturally think the s is up and the w is down. So it was difficult to play x). Anyway cool game !

Great update to an old kind of game. I'm not a big fan of the sound but the game is neat. More of a monster is the red pebbles were people too.

Good job! It was fun seeing the snake twist up and down according to what you did; I realized I was creating my own obstacles. xD Overall good job. :)
