Birds by Jammin

[raw]
made by Jammin for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

We are proud to present to you our game : Birds

It's a game where you play a character who tries to walk on a tightrope, but birds land on your stick so you have to be careful to not be destabilized.

The game can be played with arrows keys of your keyboard, but we recommand that you use the left stick of a controller.

Hope you have fun!

Once I reach some threshold there is no going back !

The artwork is fantastic! The moving clouds in the background are the kind of details of love in Ludum Dare games! I also love how it subtly zooms out once your tower of birds gets high enough!

I would suggest adding some sort of score, such as the number of birds that has landed, and perhaps displaying your highest record in the title screen. I counted about 50 before I decided I had seen all the game has to offer. I also love how it has controller support, I tried separate runs with both the controller or the keyboard, and I have to say the keyboard makes it way easier!

The music is really charming! Marvelous work on the sound design! All around this game was a good time.

The line art is charming, but it feels like it's missing something; namely, since the guy in the picture doesn't actually tip relative to how unbalanced you are it feels like the gameplay and graphics are kinda disconnected. And since the player is mainly looking at the bar at the top rather than the sprite, less attention is drawn to the increasingly large piles of birds, which might lead to the player not feeling much sense of progression or accomplishment.

I like the graphics, although problem is that the character doesn't actually sway with the unbalancness. Also would have liked some sort of score counter.

Simple but beautiful. Love everything about the look of this. Some windy ambiance under the music might have helped it feel like you really are up there. lovely game

It seemed really easy with the keyboard and I didn't really get a sense of progress as it felt I was doing the same thing at the same rate regardless of the number of birds. I'd have liked the addition of birds to have a greater effect on the bar so I'd have to correct for it with bird placement having a noticeable effect on the tilt.

Cute artstyle, although seems a little unfinished. Simple game, it would have been cooler with more features (i.e. different weights and more keys to press to gain balance)

Love a Godot game! simple and sweet, the animations were really nice, it'd be nice to see this with the assets filled out with colour and a nice animation when you fall - good job!

I like the animation of the man and the birds, and the background art is nice.

I would say I agree with other commenters that the gameplay and visuals feel a bit disconnected. I played using arrow keys, and found it really easy to stay near the middle of the bar. I was mainly looking at the bar, which is much less interesting than the image of the birds on the stick. A solution may be to animate the gameplay state, with the man tilting to represent the state.

Nice art and audio but a bit repetitive and kinda unfair at times when you reach a certain threshold but thats probably realistic...in our game thats kinda similar but a different approach you also cant save yourself once you reach that point ^^ Overall a nice entry well done!

Visually, there's a lot to love here - I really like the background artwork, and the line art over the painted background do a very good job of making everything visually distinct from everything else. And the slow zoom out over time is a nice touch! Gameplay-wise, I'd have liked to have seen the difficulty ramp up more over time - maybe have birds fly from one place to another on the stick, making them more likely to cluster on one side and make things more unbalanced.

I think the premise of the game is fairly simple and quite fit for a game jam, but I would have preferred more visual feedback.

As other have mentioned, the art is really cute. However, the gameplay is very simple can needs a bit more work.

Overall, though, I like it!

Nicely Done!

Visually it is very plesant and music is very pretty. Playing on keyboard is rly hard, would appriciate different mechanic for keyboard than for gamepad.
