Orbital Rescue by amkingTRP

[raw]
made by amkingTRP for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

You are a member of a Search and Rescue team sent to Space Station Gamma after it is struck by an asteroid and become unstable. You need to get the survivors to the teleport rings to beam them to safety.

I ran out of time to add the levels I wanted to as I have work on the Monday, but the levels that are there form a tutorial and a taster of the sorts of things an extended game would have.

I have opted out of sounds as the only sound I created was the background soundscape, but that was from something I did for a previous Ludam Dare. All other sound effects were public domain from freesound.org

HTML5 version now available following a Unity install update.

A great take on the theme, and really nice artwork - the particle effects are simple, but work really well

This is just great.
I can see a ton of work went into the art & back-end.

You've laid the foundation for what could really be a fun little game, more spinny levels would be great!
I really like the little intro cutscene you made.

To nitpick on an opt-out, some ambient sounds would be great.

Cool game for a ld entry. Maybe too slow for me. But great job.

Enjoyable little game!
Looks very good!

Jetpack is pretty fun to use. I wish there were more levels and they were just a bit harder or _unstable_.

Great job!

@ilokimo , just me. Got a pass from my family to work on it for most of the weekend (probably about 18 - 20 hours of work on it).

Nice and atmospheric. The jetpack mechanic is pretty fun and controls well. The rotation of the levels are really cool! I wanted more levels but it's a jam so there's not time for everything.

This game builds a very nice atmosphere. The graphics are as good as what you can ask for considering the time limit, and the concept has potential for a full game, given enough polish. I spent a good minute on the starting screen pressing buttons until my fingers landed on the spacebar, but that's just the sort of completely natural oversight you get when you work alone. I did also find myself wishing for the option to replay a level after I left some survivors behind, and the fire doesn't actually hurt if you stay very still, which might be a bug but it's also quite funny.

I feel you on the HTML5 problem, since porting to that seems to always introduce so many fresh bugs you didn't even think existed, and ironing them out takes a lot of precious time.

Overall I think this is a very good prototype of something that could turn into an actual paid product.

 good platformer. i think its welldone and complete. i didnt get the survivors on the first level thou since i didnt have to open the gate for them.. maybe only on the first level you can make it so the door doesnt open without survivors and teach the player before its too late and now im on the 2nd level with unrecoverable lost points on the level1 other than that it was good

I had an issue with the game opening in a tiny screen but could make it fullscreen with Alt+Enter. Loved the atmosphere and concept. Really cool game, definitely for not having 3 days!

Wow this was really great! I loved the progression of teaching you each mechanic and the final level of the ship tilting was nice use of the theme as well as interesting level design. Really great job!

So, the game is obviously very short and not a lot is going on in it, but I kind of like the vibe.

Cute little game! I didn't quite twig that the smoke was the exit, so missed a few survivors and had no way of going back so played through it a second time to rescue everyone. Other than that it was easy to pick up and with some work has potential to get really challenging and exciting.
Good job on the art and for having an intro/outro and tutorial!

The game looked really pretty!
+ Atmosphere, visual effects, sound effects are greate
- Noticed that your text in the UI is a little blurry. I know there is a bug with text in Unity. But you can try using textmeshpro instead of classic text, the blur effect should disappear

Good job!

I finally got going with it and suddenly it was over! Great game! The jetpack controls was a lot to get used to since I kept expecting spacebar to automatically start pushing me upward.

Good game! I loved the graphics, and the ambience sounded great, even though it was from a previous Ludum Dare. I also found going around saving everyone to be pretty fun, despite killing one and abandoning quite a few of them. I do agree with Frozedon in that I kind of expected to just go straight up while using the jetpack, though I guess it creates sort of a more unique mechanic to have the jetpack controlled the way it is. Overall I thought this was a pretty good game. Well done!
