Last Mile by kurrik

[raw]
made by kurrik for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

Global supply chain issues have caused a huge backlog of undelivered packages to pile up! Jump in your trusty delivery van and see if you can get these packages through the last mile of their delivery to houses in your neighborhood!

Last Mile is a Ludum Dare game developed over the course of a weekend by @kurrik and @KalevRK. All models, images, sounds and gameplay were created as part of this jam.

Feels great to drift around a corner and launch 6 parcels into someones building, well done!

I like the music and the art! The controls feel really finnicky though, and it didn't run very smoothly on my computer. Could be my fault! I like the concept, I was going to go in a similar direction with my game, except the delivery is pizzas. :)

I really enjoyed this game. I love the graphics too. For some of the houses closer to the top of the screen, I couldn't see how many parcels they needed delivering, it was cut off, not sure if that's a problem on my end or not.

Thanks for the feedback so far! We made some adjustments to the WebGL settings so it should run smoother. The buildings at the top do get their number cut off—that's a bug on our end, sorry! Kind of makes it more difficult though, since you have to guess how many packages to take :D

That's a solid game!

Pretty clever take on the theme. I love the art and overall presentation. The music is also very good.

I don't have much to complain about. Maybe it could run a little smoother, but it was good enough to enjoy the game.

Nicely done!

In my opinion, a little bit of camera movement would have been better. But, well done for 3 day timeframe.

I like the interpretation of the theme! It is funny and graphics are well done! Solid entry

hi, enjoyable game. Maybe you could add more distractors to the scene to make it more unstable. :)

Nice entry. It fit the theme pretty well. Maybe you could add more camera movement.

I really enjoyed the quality of the graphics and the music did a great job setting the tone!

I found the control a bit hard to use at first but once I got used to them they were very fun!

Delightful. Definitely runs better on controller than keyboard (packages feel more precarious on the keyboard, more sticky with controller?). Definitely let out an audible "oh noo!" as the clock ticked down and my packages spilled across the road.

The controls and physics of the car is a little buggy, sometimes car goes through buildings.

But overall it's a pretty funny game, I really enjoyed it.

Wooo, manager was mad at me for the first few days.
Until I found out that maybe stacking one package is a bit safer. Got through a few days!

Noo don't yell at me delivery boss man.
The visuals and gameplay feel very polished and clean. the car controls on keyboard felt a bit volatile but nothing some practise couldn't get over. Great work folks :)

Nice game and I was able to learn how not to loose all the boxes. The audio fitted the game and graphic design is coherent. I had some issues with the controlls (probably a matter of getting familiar) and the car sometimes bounces off glass walls.

This was really cool! These people are ordering some massive packages I must say! They wont even fit in my truck XD
Playing this is a lot of fun. Just driving alone feels really responsive and cool, and piling up the packages on top makes it even better. At first I did not notice the number that said how many packages needed to be delivered to a house somehow, so I was a bit confused. I quickly understood though and was able to play!

It was also not clear to me that I could spawn more packages by pressing on the screen. Also this is something I figured out by just trying, but there was a moment of confusion.

I liked the visuals and sound a lot. Really cool game! :D

Good implementation of the theme and the visuals were nice! Found the controls a bit wonky as the directions didn't align with the rows of houses, but other than that great job!
Quite Good

Great visuals and a nice, clear interpretation of the theme. Found the controls a little frustrating since the grid is a little off aligned, but I'm pretty sure that was very deliberate, so nice job! Keep shipping!

It looks fantastic. The controls are good. It's quite challenging. I am kind of unsure how to get around a corner with more than 4 boxes. I did manage to get 3 levels in, but that was mostly because my deliveries were closeby :P Good game, though! Thanks!

I think it has a solid mechanic and a really good potential to keeo its development.

I don't know if just me, but instead of the arrows represent the direction to go, I would prefer the classic up (accel), Left/right (steering)

Fun art and concept. I agree with other comments that the controls felt weird, and the game probably should have been accelerate/decelerate and turn, but still a fun few minutes, and that's a gamejam game if I've ever heard it.

Very interesting idea and nice graphics.

Agree with other comments, controls are weird and hard to master (I tried with keyboard and gamepad).
The gameplay fit perfectly with the theme.

Keep coding :muscle:

Concept, graphics and music are top-notch!
I felt that, like others, the controls were a bit weird and the game was not really smooth (in terms of performance), but again the graphics are top-notch!

Great idea! I love the graphics, looks really cute. I had some issues with controls and collision detection (you can drive out of frame, or even through buildings). I can imagine that after some polishing this game could be very fun and addictive.

At first I didn't even understand what to do and just generated parcels - and it was a lot of fun. And when I realized that they needed to be transported, it became even more fun. It's a pity that the controls are inconvenient. But the topic is well covered. Well done!

Good entry! It took me some time to move the car properly, I'd have preferred with the classic controls of a vehicle but it also makes it a bit more complicated which is good to make things more unstable :) the graphics are really nice and the music too. I appreciate the way you coded the stack of parcels not letting just the physics do its thing so it has a better experience. Good job!

Loved the music and the graphics ! The mechanics feels nice, though I had a little adaptation before driving correctly. Also, the number of packages to deliver is hardly readable on the top row.
I absolutely loved the fact that you can just "throw" the packages to the correct building with a violent collision in the right direction !

I like the Money for Nothing guy! Nice game and music the concept is really cool and demands a lot of care when you are driving. It's the Crazy Taxi of Fedex.

Wow!!! you really did a great job!!! I enjoy playing your game, the controls are very intuitive and although the mechanics are somewhat simple, it has a level of difficulty that makes it interesting. Those boxes are very unstable !!!

Uh I don't know, I was really bad at this. Without tank controls I kept bumping into buildings and loose all my packages immediately, I didn't get very far.
Graphics are nice though! (is that the guy from Money for Nothing? :D )

Had fun! It was really interesting that I keep thinking up was forward, but I also liked that the arrows were directional sometimes. Not sure what made the switch in my mind, I think because up was not the same as up on the road as it was a bit tilted, so it made me think pressing up should make me go forward? The boxes were pretty hard to drive when stacked, so I couldn't make it past 5 deliveries, though maybe I could have done the deliveries more piecewise? Maybe the game could be about "how much you can balance at once" versus "how many within a time limit" if you wanted to focus on the balancing part more. nice job!

Cool concept. For some reason the controls feel weird? Maybe I'm too used to using the arrows to turn instead of going the direction I want. I had fun ^^
