Humans Lived Here by GregMiller

[raw]
made by GregMiller for Ludum Dare 49 (COMPO)

Join Hudson as they explore the ruins of civilization torn apart by an unstable environment, trying to find his unconscious body. Made in Basic Unity in 48 Hours, I found it to be a great learning experience for trying out the 2D functions of the Game Engine.

Be warned, there are still a few bugs. Supports Keyboard and Mouse and Partial Gamepad support.

Controls:

A/D to Move Left and Right. * (Mouse and Keyboard) * | Left Joystick to Move. * (Gamepad) *

Spacebar to jump. * (Keyboard and Mouse) * | B Button to Jump. * * (Gamepad)* *

* Note: Jump is a charge. You can hold it down to get a bigger jump.*

Enter Key to Continue text. * * (Keyboard and Mouse)* * | A Button to Continue Text * * (Gamepad)* *

Some options (like selecting dialogue choices) are mouse only.

Patch Notes

Version 1.1

-Fixed Controls screen. (Animation issue was preventing it from loading.)

-Fixed Grace encounter, will no longer freeze the game. (This was due to a improper loading of game objects.)

Version 1.2

-Fixed more bugs with Grace. (Missing name was found in one of the choices, seems to have been causing the freeze.)

-Fixed in-level tooltips, now they will show the correct text.

What are the controls? I tried clicking the controls option in the main menu but it didn't do anything so when I pressed play I was stuck at the first dialogue box, I tried many buttons but nothing else seemed to get me going. But from what I saw, the mood of this game is pretty good! The sound and visuals fit together nicely.

Oops! I just noticed what you mean. I'll add a section that explain the controls to the page, sorry. I guess the fade-in animation for the controls had a bug I didn't notice.

Cool story. The music/look/atmosphere is really good. It has a nice post-apocalypse vibe. I liked exploring the level and meeting the robots.

The robot feel was really good, but the level was too simple. It could have used some more challenging jumps/obstacles. The jumping and instability was neat. I didn't realize exactly how long was a long press until I noticed the sound effect that went with it. I did like that the robot jumped only when releasing the spacebar, which is different from what I'm used to, but a it's worthwhile change.

I still lose control whenever I talk to grace (version 1.1).

Huh, strange. Seems like the Unity Editor and .exe were giving wildly different results. I'll push a hotfix soon. Thank you for the feedback, and sadly I agree that the level design could have used more work. I just ran out of time as the character controller was giving me some issues. (Especially with trying to make it unstable, but not **TOO** unstable.)
