Controls

  • Move - WASD

  • Attack - Left Mouse Button

  • Spend Energy - Right Mouse Button

Notes: This game was made with Unity. If you want to look at the source code to learn anything, be warned! At the end I kind of threw all kinds of code against the wall to see what stuck. It's a mess.

Sprinting around and smacking aliens with a bat... What else could one ask for? Nice entry I had fun playing it. Would be cool to see more mechanics/enemy types to spice up the different waves. Good work!

Especially liked the atmosphere of this one! Didn't feel too "unstable", could use a bit more chaos maybe. :D

Interesting concept. It felt nice zooming around with energy and deflecting spikes. I also like the graphics, although your vision could be slightly bigger. It got repetitive quite fast, more and varied content would be a great addition. The UI was too small for my taste.
Great job!

Especially liked how I could hit the projectiles as well and kill enemies that way. Also the energy mechanic is quite cool, even though I didn't get it until maybe the 5th wave or so :)

Took me a minute to get it but once I did it was fun 😃
The art set the mood nicely and the light effect was very cool.
Good effort!

I was a little confused at first, I thought I was doing a good job but it turned out I was just smacking the arrow-looking projectiles and not destroying the green things. I wasn't quite sure "when" to spend my energy so instead I stored it so that my base movement speed stayed up.

The game has good mood. I like the art direction and the player animations, and it felt pretty satisfying to whack things away! I got through 5 waves and killed 24 enemies. Far, far from the dev high score!

Pretty simple, but that attack feels really satisfying to use. I'm not sure how well the theme came across, but the idea of gathering energy from hitting enemies is cool. Overall solid though! (if a bit easy)

it is quite challenging and fun. I really like the animations, although I would have preferred a larger area to see. But overall it is super well done

Nice game. It was fun to try it out. Controls feel really nice, the art style looks good. I just wish there were more types of opponents, or maybe I just did not survive long enough to meet them :)

Also. Congratulations of your first compo game!

That is a very neat game. I played it for quite a while ^^.
Not so sure about the relation with the theme though. Graphics and lighting are great!
But, once again very well done :)

First time around I didn't really get the "Unstable Energy" mechanic, a more thorough explanation would have been nice. Second time around I paid a bit more attention and it got more and more fun as I got better, and I managed to bop the listed developer record.

The melee attack paired paired with zipping around the arena from enemy to enemy was really fun, and it had a nice satisfying swing animation too.

@c1fr1, I'm incredibly impressed by that score  Well done!

@wafflesys, Thank you. Spot on, the theme is probably the weakest part of the game. Unstable was supposed to be the energy. But it didn't turn out all that unstable to be honest. I wrote a feature breakdown of it of you want to know more: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/moonbase-melee/moonbase-melee-unstable-energy-feature-breakdown

Did take me a second to figure out what I was doing but pretty fun after I stopped just standing hitting flying things! I'm not sure how it links to the theme really (more of a stamina meter) but maybe an added line in the "story" would loosely link it to what you were aiming for so it would be clearer for us! Make it part of the lore :P

Really liked the vibe of the game and super impressive especially for a compo! A couple of small things that would add to the finished feel of the game would be just adding a little variation. If you have some slight pitch variation every time you hit something and maybe a slight pulsing effect where the circle of view grows and shrinks, little things like that would make it feel more complete and a bit more engaging without taking up to much dev time! Saying that, love the sound effects! They were so cute!

Overall, really great entry and polished well! Congrats!

Edit: just scrolled up and saw you did a post about the unstable energy so I kinda get it now! Also extra cool with the passive effects of the energy levels. I'd probs whack that in the description too so people know when they go to play the game :)

I got 58 enemies!

I didn’t encounter any bugs, and the game had a nice loop. But I should have been glad to use my energy to increase the light around the player. Sometimes I had the feeling of no chance to evade the spikes. Congratulation to your game!

Nice idea placing the developer's high score into the game. I should have done it in my game too.
