Star Drop by kantanloop

[raw]
made by kantanloop for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

cover1.png

Create platforms for falling buildings, and guide them to their target landing zone in this short puzzle game made for Ludum Dare 49.

Everything except for the sound effects were made by me!!!!

CONTROLS:

Space: Drop the building

R Key: Restart the Level

ESC: Audio Options, options to skip level and quit game (press ESC again to exit this menu lol)

Can you clear all 7 levels and make them all land right side up?!?!? (I will personally tell you good job because I don't think the game does)

Thanks for playing!

Very pleasant retro-like experience, right up my alley. The game doesn't let you in lightly starting from level 1 but some of the solutions make for pleasant surprises. The chilling music is awesome and keeps playing. It's a job well done mate. If anything, the restart delay could be improved (i.e. shortened ;) for these impatient Ludum Dareians.

Great execution! Felt like you must have put some real effort into polishing the game once you had the idea down. Really like the inclusion of bonus challenges in the form of trying to get the drops right-side-up. Menus and settings were sharp and helpful.

Good job!

Loved the game and the menu was very nice. Subtly designed! I couldn't get past level 4, haven't rated this yet, will come back to it when I have completed a couple more levels because I definitely think there's something I'm missing. Level 4 just seems unwinnable and I can't accept that!

Great graphics and music! And just what is this building delivery company and who is hiring them? :D

This game is great, it feels so smooth and relaxing, I just wanted to keep playing! The pixel art is nice and simple, animations are satisfying, and the concept is both fun and a good fit for the theme. I'm a big fan of the gameboy-style color scheme too. Hover-on effects and screen transitions are a nice touch, as well as the notation system at the end of levels (though I'm not sure it's detecting right-side up correctly haha), I got one "dope" and one "yay"!

Not much to criticize here, everything feels clean and polished. Did you make the music yourself? I really like it.

This is honestly one of the best and most innovative games from the jam! I could easily see this being on mobile as a full game. I like the Game Boy-inspired look as well.

I managed to get all the badges! But only one wow haha. Sweet inovative idea that fits the theme and that is well exploited and implemented, great job!

I was sure I'd be a goner at level 4 but was able to complete all 7! Got a dope and a yay! Was super committed to the end. loved the retro vibes and the chill music. The game was really easy to pick up and had a lot of fun. Felt fresh that there wasn't just one way to get it to the goal! Wish there were more stages!!!

Very relaxing, felt like a Nintendo game in a way :) The restart animation is a little too long for my taste and I had trouble recognizing some of the obstacles because of the background. The music and art is lovely though. I had fun with this little puzzler!

This was a really good one. The retro-minimalistic graphics work really well, the music and sound effect are fitting and satisfying. The core idea is solid and the game is rather fun. Sometimes waiting for the "stars" to align is a bit annoying, especially if you're restarting a lot, but its a minor issue. Overall, a very solid entry.

very stylish game. the puzzles were hard but they definitely gave me the classic "ooh im on my way to figuring this one out now" puzzle game satisfaction once i did manage to solve them, good job!!

while i had no trouble getting the overall idea of having to get your house to the target zone, it took me quite a bit to get my brain away from thinking the "platforms" would allow the house to rest on or slide off of them and initially i even thought the game might be bugged on my end somehow. maybe some sounds/animations would help with better communicating the fact they cause things to bounce?

one specific thing i liked a lot is the way the game's intro screen introduced the connection stuff by just allowing you to click on things instead of there being some separate tutorial level, that felt cool.

The pixel graphics, the sound effects, and the ui are all really polished. I'm very impressed. It took me a second to figure out the gameplay, but once I understood it was really interesting and unique. I do think some of the puzzles are a bit tough right off the bat though. I didn't get past lvl4, but there was one earlier that I think I only got past by a fluke. Still, really wonderful job!

Got frustrated with level 4, quit the game, read the comments here feeling the same but ending up beating the game. So I restarted the game to finish it! It was a nice experience, the music and art fit well together, pretty good puzzle design except for level 4.
Sometimes two platforms would get triggered at the same time which felt really bad since I had to redo the whole setup (especially tedious when there is multiple moving connection points).
Massive QoL changes would be:
- Make sure only 1 platform can be triggered within .1 sec or so
- make old connections persist on level restart so you dont have to redo them every time
- auto reset would be great (the systems should be in place since you show the "R to reset" hint when the dropped building is stationary).

This game is in my personal top 10 for this Jam! Really well done :)

Really enjoyed this one! Felt really polished and was fun to play. The graphics especially were beautiful!

I would've liked to see a fullscreen button, as the fairly small window made the game a bit harder to play for me; since you're using GameMaker, all you need is an object with an F11 event (or any other key) that has the line `window_set_fullscreen(!window_get_fullscreen());` in it. (If there is fullscreen and I somehow missed it, sorry!)

Really nice work! :)
