The Cave Diamond by PSV Games Studio

[raw]
made by PSV Games Studio for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

In this game made exclusively for Ludum Dare 49 you control a sympathetic robot whose mission is to collect a diamond from a cave at the bottom of a volcano!

What can go wrong??? -I don't even think I need to answer that!

How is this diamond???

-He's in the cave in abundance! There are lots of them, but the robot can only carry one piece because it is so heavy!

And how am I going to get out of the cave?? flying??

-Not! I have already said that diamonds are heavy, the robot will be able to go out through an old structure that is in the volcano, scientists say that this structure was built when the volcano was not active.

What did you say?? Is the volcano active? can it erupt?

-Yes! That's exactly what I said. That's why I need your help to get the robot and diamond safely to the surface!

One more thing:

-The lava is not cold and will kill the player or the diamond if touched.

Extra information:

-The game was made in less than 72 hours.

-The game has language option in English and Portuguese.

-Have a good time!

Nice! Thank you for actually giving decent in-game instructions as they become relevant instead of using a wall of text. Looks and plays good. My only criticism would be to maybe let the intro cutscene skip on retries, but it wasn't too difficult like many jam games tend to be, so even that wasn't a big issue, because I only needed three attempts.

The game is really coold, would have loved it if you could restart a bit faster every time you die.

The visuals caught my eye on this game. I think the presentation is really well done, especially when it comes to menus and tutorials. Only criticism is I would have liked to be able to restart the level immediately with 'R' rather than waiting to die.

Nicely done, too bad the robot doesn't rotate going on ramps but other than that nice polish as well.

Great job, nostalgic graphics. Gostei da opção de tradução pros BR :D . I would like to have a skip option when I press R, but great game overall.

Low the visuals and intro cinematic. I would prefer if there were checkpoints :)

Really nice, the graphics went together nicely, the controls were intuitive, only picking up the crystal was a hit or miss and the slow jazzy music in the background on one side didn't fit to the situation? But for me, it fitted the tone of the game :D The game is really cool, but with unskippable cutscenes and replaying the whole level from beginning - sorely needs checkpoints. But a big thumbs up from me ;)

Visuals are astonishing ! Also, controls well responds and the take and drop mechanic is a good idea. I would have appreciated more variations in the platforms :-) I'm still questionning the music choice though, it does not really give the "emergency" feeling I would expect for a race against time

Thanks to everyone for the feedbacks!

@tykenn I really thought the cut scene could be cut on restart, I noticed this by testing it before posting, but the time was a bit short and decided to post anyway.

@ghuyajil thanks for your feedback, this was really well observed!

@etrealjunior / @fernando-sydenstricker-c was translation for English speakers! I'm a native of Brazil and I'm still learning English, I think it's important to value the creation of games and players in Brazil!

@drenock) / @drunk-wizard Maybe the song didn't really match, if you notice there are cave and lava sounds also along with the song, this song I went on youtube and searched for "no copyright cave music", and I put it one that I thought, maybe that choice wasn't so good.

At the beginning of this jam I expected to make an infinite game, as I usually do, I think it gives a bigger gameplay (in fact, actually), and each player would have a different experience, but in this game I couldn't think of an infinite game at all. about the topic, so I decided to do something more “simple”, which still gave me a lot of work!

Simple concept, but executed well! I like how you learn the mechanics as you go; it's paced well. The graphics are clean and well done. My only complaint is that the camera feels unnecessarily restrictive when looking up - you can only look up about 40 degrees or so before it stops you. Since the lava was gaining on me, I wanted to look up to see what was ahead of me, and I found it weird that I couldn't. Overall, it's very polished and plays well!
