[raw]
made by Argon for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

bannièrev2.png

You have to help the biodiversity of the island to remain stable. Every species must stay alive. (yes, herb too)

Place herbs, rabbits and wolves on the island, and be strategic :

🌱 Herb multiply itself with some time

🐇 Rabbit must eat 3 herbs to multiply

🐺 Wolf must eat 5 rabbits to multiply

Very fun game, although a tiny bit too fast-paced for my taste, as it is a bit hard to see what's going and thinking about where to put down the next herb/rabbit/wolf. I panic-clicked alot!

Nice game! It was a really interesting idea, and it played well too - there was never a moment where I felt bored or in control, and things rapidly became unstable, perfect for the theme! I liked the random order of placing creatures too, it made it even more disorderly and forced you to think ahead to your next move. The graphics were nice too, the different colours for creature made things very easy to read, and I really liked the pencil-drawn aesthetic! The variety in sound effects kept them fresh, which was also nice. Good work on this game, it was really unique!

@wuk Thank you for your feedback ! Clearly the game is more unbalenced than unstable for the moment so it didn't help with the difficulty...

Really fun. The game is a bit fast (or maybe has to little insight into the distribution of the different objects) so making good decisions is difficult at the moment.

Very fun game! I always loves the concept of this kind of simulated evolution and you managed to turn it into a game very nicely. Simple, good idea. And the art was fitting too. Some seeds are bound to fail very quickly, but it doesn't really bother me. A second map with a lot more space would be cool! My best score was 376 :)

Short and sweet, I had fun playing this, got 172 points. As others said it is a little too fast, the pause button was a nice idea, and adding more speed control would definitely help.

Another thing I feel would be nice improvement is to have the cooldown (also) at the cursor because when I play I find most of my attention is on the map only occasionally glancing to the side to see the queue, and I start panic spamming the left mouse button not knowing when my spawn will happen (the green placement square was a bit deceptive the first time I played).

Otherwise really cool idea, the river was a nice twist and you could add more events to make it last longer - seasons changing, terrain deformations, etc.

Edit: Oh one last, I think the game over is a bit too sudden, a freeze frame or two showing the last death, or a slower transition would help so I have moment to realize where I dun goofed.

(o) please add a link to the Ludum page on the itchIO page, itch has extra topic on it's the game edit page for that matter ... there are people who use itch to search ludum games sorted by genre

(-) the game is a bit to quick paced, where even placing on cool down is just to slow & using pause

(-) random generator can screw a match easily, three times the same thing in a row should be prevented

(o) herbs shouldn't die off on their own

(+) gui is easy to read

(+) gui is easy to use

(+) biodiversity strategy is a interresting concept, although not new, but not done often, so it feels fresh

Tested the Linux version, it runs fine! Except the missing .pck file, I had to get that from the Windows download :P
I find the game really difficult, it often ends after only a few seconds - it's a good match for the theme, but if development were to continue outside of the jam, it may be good to add a bit more stability - maybe slow the game down a bit or decrease the cooldown. :)
Anyway, I had fun, my highscore is 90!
