Shinobi Rivals by Tom Robson

made by Tom Robson for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

Shinobi Rivals is a local multiplayer brawler, where you and a friend play as two Shinobi Warriors, battling atop of unstable platforms, to prove just which one of you is the more powerful warrior!

In order to achieve victory, you must drive your adversary off of the platforms. You can do this just by bumping into them. Be careful though! This technique is likely to send you flying too! Also beware of standing idle for too long, as these platforms are old, and unstable. They could collapse at any moment if you stand on them!

Your fight will take you from great Sakura Forests, to the Rooftops of Kyoto, and even deep into the mountains - as you and your friends wreak havoc across 9 stages!

This game was so much fun, the camera panning especially was on point, it really make the whole experience even better. Its a shame that some people probably wont be able to play this one, an AI for single player would be a great addition to this game

It looks and sounds great!

I had a hard time trying this solo -- which obviously isn't the ideal experience but unfortunately my only option right now -- but even if you just had something besides left mouse, like right control, as another option for the player 2 jump then I could sort of play against myself and at least get a better idea of the game.

I'll try and come back with a friend and give it another go later

This game is gorgeous! Incredibly well done. I didn't get to experience it as an actual multiplayer game but can absolutely see this working beautifully in that context. You get all the points!

Very fun with friends locally! Never played many single keyboard games but it was fun!

Love the mechanics; the dramatic impact burst (visual and physics) when you bump the other player is really fun and the platforms dropping feels like a smash bros stage. The art is very cute (love the little flip at the top of the jump). The font choice really threw me, though, because a lot of the letters are kana being used for a completely different sound than they mean. A different pixel font might read better and also make more sense for Japanese readers!

Very fun to play with some friends, and the game plays well. I think you could have gone even further with the theme of instability, but even so, this is a really well made implementation of that idea.

nice to see a multiplayer entry - as I like to play through the entries with a friend, which is just more fun. I like games were it can immideatly go wrong and the music was super :)

It's refreshing to see a 2-player game submitted, kudos! Hopefully you find your audience amongst all of us expecting to find single player games :)

The movement is very smooth, and the gameplay concept is neat. The art style is very consistent and polished too, you can tell that a lot of care went into this game.

I had a complaint here but I have to edit my comment - I thought the platforms collapsed randomly, but I realized that they collapse from idling on them! In this case, this is actually a great mechanic, and not unfair, as I previously stated :-p
