We present you our game: Larry's Whacky Alchemy Lab

machine1.gif

Story

Larry's machine needs alchemical compounds to remain stable. You need to approach the machine and see what compounds it needs. You then must run to the desired compounds and get the right amount of each. You must move quickly, since Larry's machine is about to be completely unstable within 2 minutes at most. Beware that these alchemical compounds are unstable themselves, and you might get a few side-effects along the way.

Feel free to stop by the stabilizer to clean off any side-effects and heal up!

Objective

Feed Larry's machine 15 times the correct alchemical compounds to stabilize Larry's lab. Keep a close watch to your health, some side-effects are harmful.

Controls

  • Walk with WASD or use the arrow keys
  • Interact with objects with E
  • Run while holding shift
  • No mouse required

Hello there!

Great game! The graphics are nice and the game is straightforward. I like the audio too.

Notes:
- Controls are a bit weird
- I think it would be better if there was a counter of the time you have left to stabilise the reactor
- A dustbin to get rid of wrong resources would be helpful

That's all my suggestions. All the best for the rating!

Graphics were cutesy, took me a little bit to figure out what I was actually supposed to be doing but I think I'm just dumb. I didn't connect the word stars with the ingredient that had stars on it. Perhaps using the symbol or colour when looking at the machine would reduce this confusion.
Would have been nice to have music.
I really liked all the random effects, but didn't feel as though there were enough ways to interact with that system for it to feel fully fleshed out.

Nice concept and execution! It took a little bit to figure out what I was doing, but once I got the hang of it I was rushing around the lab like an old pro! I love the concept of stacking effects on the player for the sake of fixing the machine. Some of the effects are pretty fun too, like the control-swapping one. Nice job!

The pixel art work is really fantastic, super clean and cute style-wise. Relatively simple gameplay but very enjoyable. Great entry!

Yeah really liked this, that gameplay loop is very interesting. You could maybe explore more interaction with the ingredients?

Confusion is an incredible mechanic, and I had a lot of fun running around trying to stabilize things! Very entertaining game :D

Ok I love the art and I love the game idea. Great stuff! Very fun and gives me retro game feels.

Having the different effects to your movement is cool and I can even imagine what an expanded version of the game would be like with visual effects, audio changes, etc.

Great work. :)

Its a nice little arcade game. The sprites are very well done, good job on those. Side effects are neat. Some extra indication would be nice, its hard to tell when you're on low health, some kind of pulsing red border near the edge of the screen would help for example

super cool idea, fits the theme perfectly, and I love the mechanics and the art!! the side effects are amazing and make you think  I reached level 12 with a score of 7700

I would also like to report a bug :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: sometimes the machine request is nothing, and this confused me a lot, I ended up pressing E and going one level up without doing anything :star:

Fun game with cool style. But probably not enough music

Loved the art! It would be better if it had a soundtrack to make it more fun to play, but it's hard to do everything in such a period of time. But if you ever develop this game more it would be great with a background music. Overall, really fun to play!

Good art and sound effects. I felt like the effects were more of a nuisance than something to work around, partially because I didn't have time to bother reading the effect, I just had to trust I was doing ok. If the effects made changes to the player sprite, it would be really easy to tell what was going on.

I still had fun with this game, well done!

This is so much similar to my game! I'd be glad to hear your opinion about it.

I liked the pixel art with many little details. Also the gameplay is fun

Once I worked out the machine was telling me what to guess, I memorised the numbers and pounded the potions. Then drugged up, I tried tottering back home. Pretty wild. Sound effects and graphics were excellent, and cool to play. I imagine if this was multiplayer, with an extra polish, this could be professional. well done!
