A Stable Job by UCSBDad

[raw]
made by UCSBDad for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

A life simulator. This is what life is like. You have a stable job. Bring home the bacon and brace yourself for another day. NOTE There is no WebGL version on Itch because I learned after exporting it that videos don't work with it. This is my first jam (and second game in Unity) so we'll chalk it up to a learning experience. Sorry everyone.

I liked the innovation! Nice work.

Could appreciate the higher move speed, but I understand why it was done that way.

Harsh story, good work nevertheless!

It's a special game to say the least! It would have been nice if the music, which fits perfectly and sets the mood well, was looping. Overall a nice contemplative experience that reminded me of Desert Bus ^^

That was unexpectedly dark :o

The mood is really spooky, with the audio and the long eventless walk. Keep at it!

The game took an unexpected turn which I really liked because I felt my gut drop when it came up. It felt a bit slow however so a bit faster player speed would be appreciated. I assume the slow speed is the point but it just felt monotonous. The sprite work was fine but some art design was durastically better than others. The character was well drawn but his home didn't have compression turned off in Unity. Other than that, it was a pretty good game

This was a really creepy game... the music was kinda terrifying, but then it stopped which lightened the mood. Again, pretty creepy.
Also, I think the player is a bit too slow

I win! The movement is so slow! But it makes sense. The character sprite was pretty good. Nice job.

Yay I won. :( I guess this is what the mood category is for lol. Music was great though and did the best job of illustrating what you were going for. Next time I'm gonna stay outside and let it rain money forever.

hahaha very ironic! We did something similar, choosing the workday morning wakeup routine as our concept for illustrating unstable. Good to know we are not alone :)

The first time I played, I "ended it" after day 1. I was like "Nahhhhh."

Thinking there was more to it, maybe something I missed, I played again, lasting 6-7 days (I lost count, just like in real life). This was not fun, even while drunk. YOU NAILED IT.

Still, the audio was cool (But I guess you opted out of audio ratings?), and the character animation was cool. The "cutscene video" is morbid as hell, and really ups the "mood" factor.

I'm not quite clear on the character's "job", though. Pick up a package and take it home? Is he a drug dealer? Ironically, the game is every bit stable, but made me feel mentally UNstable as a result. Kudos.

This game is too slow. Higher walk speed make it much better

I think it is the purpose of the game to make it slow ^^
but I think the proposition when you go home is quite brutal, hope it is not the real reflection of life :O
But anyway, thank you for your game :)

I don't know why, but I am constantly being fired from new jobs. I'm messing with something, but I can't figure out what exactly my jamb is. I have already tried a lot of vacancies on the [jooble](https://ca.jooble.org/jobs-hand-cash/Montr%C3%A9al%2C-QC) website . And they are constantly being fired. It seems to me that I just can't find a job that I would like to do. What do you think about this?
