About

Deviant is a reverse-horror game where you play as an robot that periodically become murderously unstable. Destroy the core and free yourself from the humans!

Controls:

WASD to move Left Mouse Click to attack

How to play:

  • Core is behind the purple door. To open the door you need to get 3 keys from 3 person.
  • In unstable phase, you can attack enemies. You're immune to enemy attacks but each hit from enemy reduces your unstable duration.
  • In stable phase, you can die with 10 hits. But enemies won't attack you unless they saw your unstable phase. You can't attack in stable phase but you can blend in.
  • Game gets difficult as time moves on so don't wait too long!

Changes & Bug Fixes: - Fixed collision bug that occurs in low FPS (Critical bug for webGL) - Changed Found Keys text position slightly and changed the text from "Found:" to "Found Keys:"

I really wanted to add sounds to the game but run out of time. Maybe I'll make a after-jam update.

Can you make web build, please?

@qthree It's done! It's on itch and gamejolt. I was already planning to do it but thanks for reminding me! I don't recommend playing in full screen due to performance issues but other than that web build seems to be working well.

What a violent game. Its really fun though. The enemies sticking to the tentacles was a nice added touch. Great job.

Would love to see with some nice SFX with that satisfying violence. It seems like there is no HP indicator anywhere? Felt immortal in the beginning but I suddenly died of something.

Well done!

I always like games with reverse-horror aspect in them. Should be more of them :) Somehow I had problem hitting enemies but it is probably just my lack of skills :)

This is pretty great. I love the chaotic aspect of this game and attacking felt really satisfying. Too bad you weren't able to get in sound effects, but overall, this is a great entry.

Game where you play as a murderbot. Cool, can get behind that. Good way too apply the theme

The robot is really well designed, loved how it attacked all the people. This kind of game could realllllly benefit from music & SFX!

Saw you developing these tentacles on twitter! They look great!
The game was way too short, I managed to get all three keys pretty fast.
I kinda wish the player character would stay unstable throught the whole game and murder everyone :>
But still, great game!

@barrier Hey that's really cool! I never imagined one of my post could lead to here. And yeah.. game is short because I spent one and a half day working on the tentacles instead of making a game  I think making character unstable all the time kinda goes outside of the theme. When player see contrast, I believe they can appreciate the concept of unstability more. But yeah unstable phase is way more fun

This is really cool, you put in a lot of thought into the minor details which I love like the layout and people arrangements. The aesthetics is awesome, despite the extremely low res the area looks believable. It's funny how peeps just ignore you once you move to the stable phase (unless they saw you ... i.e. they are dead ;) Am I not mistaken there is no health bar though? Excellent job mate, it was great fun.

I had a great time playing it and making the sounds of blood splashes from my mouth, now my screen is blurred.
Definitely do a after-jam update!

Super fun!
I like inverse horror games and yours is a great little game too ^^.
The only flaws: - as always - it's too short and I missed the sound ^^

I really loved the key indicators, nice feature!

Keep up the good work!

IT FELT SO DAMN GOOD TO BE UNSTABLE! I felt like Venom mixed with the Kyubii!

Great concept! The graphics are awesome, fun to play and watching the tentacles killing people. I know you didn't have time for the soundtrack and the sounds, but if after the jam ends you consider adding sounds, it's going to be an even better experience to play this game!

The game plays really smooth with these little effects you added like slowing the time down, shaking and making the screen red. I really wish there were some sounds and music to accompany these effects.

Super fun fast past action! I love how polished it is too, with all the 'juice'/impact and effects. Good take on the theme too. I'm not sure that I have much I'd say should be added/changed, other than of course sfx/music - a post jam version with that is definitely something you should go for though.

Took me a few tries, but I won :) oh, maybe showing how long it took you to win at the end screen would be cool, so people could try to outdo their best time.

Very fluid gameplay and the tentacles are implemented very well. Bodies staying attached after an attack are a nice little detail. The only negative thing I found was that the big HUD at the bottom was blocking the view a bit, especially when moving downwards.

@wolderado That was really fun destroying and then hiding from the humans. The HUD arrows really helped locate the keys and everything just worked well together. Awesome entry!

Thank you for this game, it's just perfect.

Attack animation is super smooth and all that pixel blood. This is my favourite game of this LD now

"robot that periodically become murderously unstable" hate when that happens

Love the mix of stealth plus combat, and the tentacle attack was so satisfying. Very clever idea!

haha, that was a lot of fun! Good dynamic between the bonkers massacre segments and the run-and-hide segments. Super easy to pick up and play. Simple, but effective pixel art and the music was fun too. Nice work!
