Another Brick on a Brick by Richnou

[raw]
made by Richnou for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

Blocks of brick fall, move it from left to right before their drop.

Don't touch the ground!

Brick after brick, it becomes more and more UNSTABLE.

It's look like a Pink Floyd playing Tetris (?)... But it's not a Tetris, and it's not a Pink Floyd.

One day only to try to make something :-(

@richnou Now it works. Probably some server issue.

My brain was trying reeeally hard to rotate those blocks :dog:

+ very neat and complete game cycle
- missing some extra sauce not sure what it is but maybe some chilli

@baturinsky : i have modified .htaccess

For Unity developper : you need to, according to https://forum.unity.com/threads/webgl-streaming-instantiation-support-errors-on-loading-in-browser.583609/ (second response, add AddType application/wasm .wasm in .htaccess...)

I love it.

Could use some sound though, even sfxr would be helpful. Audio cues for when your block is about to drop would increase the play experience a lot.

Also, lack of rotation does add a bit to the challenge but I do feel the game would benefit from it.

Another thing I just noticed, It'd be good to have one small platform underneath the ground area. Like, one block length on each side of the platform. This would allow players to overhang one piece safely and give them and added strategy, but one they have to balance risk of.

This is good idea, and playing game is on the same interest level with Tetris, but the pieces are slippery and not as same grid sized. Also falling pieces should be faster and maybe include the fast-drop. Maybe there should be different type of weight blocks and possibility to choose 1 from 3 pieces to drop. Concept work well indeed. This game reminds me the Bandu- the board game. Fun and challenging game play. This have and interesting world as to be the part of the background story, and while there is a "todo" as to target it creates the game have a story line. You should maybe continue working on this title, this has a potential; this game is not a really "a one-more-Tetris" -game. This is different - kinda unique while still having played Tetris-games maybe a hundreds of hours

Yes for sound ;-)

For the rotation, I hesitated for a long time ...
my tests were moderately successful, but probably for the wrong reasons. You would of course expect to do so, but I opted for player "unstability" :-\

I'm not sur to understand your concept of "small platform"... Can you explain more, please ? With a drawing ?

@hiisileiri : thank's for your comment. (and hundreds of hours on Tetris me too...)

For fast-drop (and rotation), I hesitated, but it would actually boost the game a bit.

I had thought, not of the weight of the blocks, but of their fragility (unstable ...). Like, that can break as you stack things on top of it, but that would have increased the difficulty.

I thought (too late) to make the next block visible...
Choosing the next block is a good idea!

Nice visuals and take on a theme (and a song!) I would prefer blocks to rotate, but I guess the less buttons the better, if you're aiming for hyper-casual gameplay here.

Very fun idea and it has just right amount of challenge. There maybe should be a way to fast drop the blocks, because now the fallspeed is pretty slow

Simple gameplay, the concept is interesting. I think it could use a little more in the way of game feel or mechanics. Good entry!

Simple concept, not too great execution. But if you only made this game in 24 hours then its pretty nicely done.

Great game! Well done for being made in 24 hours. Loved the theme, loved the gameplay. The downward projection was a bit difficult to use for some of the blocks, but with a limited amount of time you can only do so much. Keep up the good work!

With the good ideas suggested here, and a few in my mind, as soon as I have a bit of time, I try to finalize a little more ...

Whoa, interesting piece shadow effect.

This is a pretty slow-paced game, but the instability can rack up pretty quickly after a certain point and that causes a fast game-over. I wonder if it would be more fun as a more fast-paced game that you can try again and again repeatedly?

Didn't quite get how to play, but the overall idea seemed nice, especially the silent playing of the band I love. Was confused by the sides and the lack of rotation.

Made with no time and money made me laugh!

Not bad for 24 hrs I can see what you were going for here and with some more time you probably would have nailed it. The game just needs more to it but hey it's a game jam
Once you get some rotation and fast fall this could be fun.

A bit of music would have been nice and I think it could be paced a bit faster but I enjoyed it :). I was really thinking the bottom was balanced on the triangle for the longest time, being very careful to balance everything in the center haha

Good job, and **congratulations on completing something in one day!** I like the concept, especially the whole Pink Floyd theme. I played Another Brick in the Wall behind this, and it fits really well! Some improvements I think you could make is maybe increasing the speed as the game goes on? Also, I liked how it shows you the area where the block will fall, although maybe you could make it so that the indicator changes width according to the block? I really liked the physics, and this was a good way to pass the time before work. **Good job**, and good luck for whatever comes next!
