Radio Inactive by Edoardo Talamini

[raw]
made by Edoardo Talamini for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

Title.pngSteveOK.png Help Steve and Bob avoid the nuclear meltdown by expertly fixing the cooling bars of the reactor before the countdown reaches zero. Be careful, the radio signal is unstable!

HOW TO PLAY:

*WASD or Directional Arrows to move, Space to... fix.

*Follow Bob's instruction and push them all down to prevent the meltdown and win, but be careful, making a mistake will mean that more bars will activate!

*Also, the core is unstable, and every few second one extra bar will activate.

Good Luck!Screenshot (163).pngScreenshot (164).png

Cute graphics and fun gameplay, swinging the hammer was very satisfying. took me a couple tries but my best score was beating it with 40 seconds left.

Cute graphics and funny little gameplay. There is something going on with the player disappearing behind certain layers though

Awesome and funny game. The graphics look really great.
Maybe the space between the bars is a bit too tight, sometimes its hard to navigate between them.
Apart from that really nice work.

Thanks to everyone for your compliments and feedbacks, I'm really glad the game has been appreciated :) (especially the art, since I drew it ahah)

And GG to Gat, 40 second left it's pretty good I'd say!

Fun game. Nice graphics and a simple but well thougth concept fitting the theme to 100%. Took me some tries to get the hang out of it but then i got some very fast wins

The art is really cute and it's a pretty creative concept. It felt like playing Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes haha. The added challenge from the scrambled instructions were also cool. Some background music or a fitting ambience would make the experience even more immersive. BOOM!

The game's aesthetic is pretty cool but there seem to be some graphical issues. At some points, the player's sprite is under the ground sprite. I played the web version. Despite that, I really liked the game and the idea is really cool. Good use of the theme.

@gabrielgamedev yes, there seems to be some problems with the web version. In some browsers the sprite order does not respect the original order and this causes that weird bug.
I would like to fix the problem but it doesn't happen on my browser so I really don't know how to approach it.

@phanelly Did you change the sorting layer of sprite renderers? Maybe changing the Z position of the floor will help too, I don't know

@gabrielgamedev yes, the problem is the order in layer of the sprites but is quite more complex since that parameter is dynamic and based on the vertical position of the sprites. In the pc build all works like a charm, but in the web version it somehow changes relatively to the browser. Rn I have no idea how to fix that.

Good job! I enjoyed it. I wasn't able to beat it, and maybe this is just me but I felt that bars popped up quicker than instructions given. I also would have liked the movement to be a little less clunky. Moving on, I felt that the art was really good, and the game aesthetically pleasing! The alarm sound was a bit annoying, but I think all alarm sounds are (haha). Maybe some variation might have made it a bit more pleasing. All in all, fun concept that, with a little tuning, would be a great short arcade game!

I was confused about the letter+number distribution. Usually It's from left to right numbers and from top to bottom letters. Original idea and the graphics are cool, nice!

It took me a couple tries, but I managed to survive with 10 seconds left. Who knew you could save the world with "whack-a-mole" skills?

This game looks and plays great, and the alarm sound definitely adds to the intensity (which, I suppose, is what alarms are for. Hmm...). Nice job, team!

Cool game! Nice original idea and fits the theme really well. I found that the letters of the sections were obscured when they were raised - perhaps some more indication of which quadrant I'm meant to be focusing on would make it easier. Overall really enjoyed this though, good fun

Thanks to everyone for the feedback and the compliments :)
@haematite in the main menù there is a "post-it" with the quadrants' name, but I suppose it's pretty easy to miss ahah
Quite Good

Very satisfying game. The feedback for pushing the sections in felt very satisfying, although I wish it was a bit easier to distinguish raised ones from ones that are down. I also like how you made the menu interactive by using them!

I played it 3 times, first time I got frustrated and lost, second time I lost with 1 platform left that popped up just at the end (kind of felt unfair) and the last time I won with 45 seconds remaining. It felt a bit RNG the last two times because I didn't feel like I played that much better the 3rd time.

The artstyle is cute and charming, I love Bob's animation and the people running around in the background. The siren noises were fitting and realistic but I found them abrasive and I would have preferred some kind of music or sound effects that evoke the speed/panic factor but are enjoyable. Overall I had fun playing this, good job!

I liked the graphics! At first I wasn't sure that there was a win condition. I just assumed I had to follow instructions until my doom, since the bars kept raising. I guess I was just not very good in my first playthroughs. I also figured that I just had to wait for all the information to come through from the radio rather than take risks.

Then I read the comments here and realized I wasn't quite playing right. I was able to fix everything after a couple more tries with the winning condition in mind. I liked the art, and the game follows the theme very well! Maybe don't play the same sound 50 times when all the bars raise at the same time when you lose though, that was a bit too loud! But well done with this game!

Great graphics! Love the stressful characters, and the gameplay is clever. It also fits the theme well too. I experienced the sprite sorting issue on HTML5.

Overall extremely well done!

It's like whack a mole and puzzle solving at the same time! I liked it even if the alarm can be annoying at the end.

very good and fun art !! I think that the mechanics of hitting the bars could be accelerated to make the game more dynamic, it seemed to me that the level was very loaded, maybe polishing those things would feel better. Great job!!
